Where is the BEST place in Mexico to fish strictly for cabrilla?

Not talking about a Tony Reyes trip.

In essence, where is the "cabrilla" capital of Mexico...the one place you would want to go to strictly fish inshore for them ??

Bob I would say the Bay of LA. If you don't want to fish the Mid Drift Islands. Just my two cents. Tried of catching double digit Calico's? I would say the best calico fishing I have ever had would have to be SCI or Ensenada Punta Banda Rocks.

Bob how far from San Quintin is Sacramento Reef. I have heard many great thing about the place. This is on my list of places to fish. I love Calico bass fishing. Oh I just remembered that we fished Santa Rosalia last year and killed some big ass Cabrilla all on swimbaits. The problem fishing the cabrilla were the damn triggers chewing up every plastic we threw at them. The plastics that made it though the triggers got chomped by some nice fish. Another thing great about fishing San Marcos and Tortuga Island is there are some big Yellows and very big broom tail groupers to be had. Make sure to take some heavy line if your going to fish the groupers. We were busting off on 60 and 80 pound gear.

Yeah...I fished Tortuga with Mexico Mike years back

Did the Isla San Marcos / Tortuga trip and had a ball. Had some great cabrilla fishing, but yellows were slow. Flew to Loreto, rented a Jeep and drove up to Santa Rosalia. Stayed at a beautiful place called Las Casitas (run by an American lady named Brenda). From there, we met Mike Kanzler at San Lucas Cove where he launched his Whaler.

The Geronimo Island / Sac Reef area is 50-55 miles from the launch ramp at San Quintin. Did the trip three days in a row up and back with Kelly a few years ago.

L.A. Bay is ok for Cabrilla but I think San Fransiscito [spelling?] is better. Its a little further down but can be very good. The Tony trips are the way to if u want pure Cabrilla,I have done 3 of them and if you can ignore the yellowtail fishing the Cabrilla in tight is amazing.

Here's what Gene Kira of Mexfish.com e-mailed me:

RE: best cabrilla fishing in Mexico

The best remaining populations are in the
Midriff Islands and along the Baja coast opposite them, down to about Punta
Virgenes.

After that, I'd probably pick Isla Cerralvo and the various high spots
running northwards to Isla San Jose and San Evaristo.

He also said L.A. Bay and to head north on one of the bigger pangas from Guillermo's panga operation.

Garrett...I watched it soon after you posted it....

I was getting major arousal.....fishing arousal. Why do you think I posted about cabrilla ? You had to have had two boats to get some of those shots.

Great video.
