It might not give you the "1000's of magic fingers" feeling, but you can leave the other 200hp at home, catch the same fish, and save money! After what seemed like a slight dip around the full moon, contrary to one of our current theories on yellowtail, the fishing has come back up to speed nicely. This week we started catchin quality cabrills in the 8-12 pound range along the east side of the island. While many of these came on bait the deep diving mirrorlure plugs accounted for the biggest fish. Sierra are still in the waters just off Punta Arenas, and lisa snappers to 35 pounds (watch out Cornell) were biting hard at Punta Perico. The biggest news, only mildly disguised by how long it has gone on, are yellowtail. North point of Cerralvo, in front of the Lost Uranus Hotel, and consistent action at Punta Perico is so good that you could take a one hour ride in a speed boat to get to the north point, but by then you could have had 3 in the boat at good ol' PP. Boats are getting 3-5 jurel in the boat along with pargo and some cabrilla. Wilcox's from upstate New York were here to warm up a little and he pictures below speak to their success with the yellowtail, they had 5.
