A big straw hat is hi on my list for that time of year. H-O-T!
If things are right, you may be able to head south to Roca Partida and even get into some dorado by that time. Surface action should be happening. Bring lots of sabiki rigs for bait - very early - and load up.
I know I always say this, but I cannot stress enough that you have Rapalas in all sizes and colors. Drop down in size if the yellowtail bite is tough. I'm talking the size like the ones from your trout box.

LA bay is great fishing place, i fish the mother boat Tony Reyes every year, we stop at the bay quite offen, the way fish that area, you need to fish deep for yellowtail aprx 200 to 300 ft deep, if you fish the big Island you will catch alot of cabrilla, and yellowtail, I use nothing less than 40# test and short stick, no drag at all, if you have a chance ask the captain take you to snake Island which is a small Island behind the big Island, great placeto catch a few giant grouper and shit load yellowtail, I caugh my record from snake Island 48# yellow. Good luck

late may through the end of june you will have good surface iron fishing, as the water warms up the fish will start to go deeper. bring lots of iron(blue white, blue, white, scramble eggs, chrome) work best for me. bring lots of bait hooks(big) and i use slideing sinkers but alot of fisherman use the dropper loop. i like 30 pound test for surface fishing in deep water with a jig stick and a torium or trinidad type reel. when fishing the reefs go heavy line and a heavy stick. i dont use anything under 40 pound test and prefer 60 to 80 spooled up on 4/0 6/0 and a few 2 speeds. these fish are heavy hitters out by the big island and they will give you no slack, stay alert or they will strip you faster then you can spit. like mentiond above bring alot of sabiki rigs and heavey torpedo weights as you will be getting bait everyday as working the iron all day in 100 degree heat will tire you fast. im there every june and july for the yellow tail bite and i allso have a place south of town, whats your friends name? hope this info works for you.

Last year I went down and only fished iron for yellows. Blue and chrome worked great, but as the current picked up we couldn't get down deep enough fast enough so we switched to butter fly jigs. They would go down so fast that you had to be careful of a backlash when the jig hit the bottom. Everyone on the boat just killed it. People in our group caught BSB , WSB, and grouper all on butterfly jigs also, I would deffinitely recommend several. Also, if you don't have a boat lined up, I would recommend using alfredo diaz. He's always put us on great fish.

We have always fished la bahia in the summer months. Our best month has always been August. Smoking hot, but the mixed bag is incredible. Dodo's, Yellowtail deep and always Cabrilla are avaiable. Be aware, this place makes it's own weather. We were out on a calm day when it suddenly went to 6-8 foot seas. The current is amazing, we were actually dirfting into the wind very scary. All the local guides are good, try them out first mark your GPS and make sure to stop at Don Juan cove for clams- take them to Frank the cook at Gurillimos, give him a nominal tip and you wont regret it. Have fun, and keep this best kept secret to the fisherman! No Gringo Developers!
