| Passport requirements...
I thought you didn't need them until 2008 however, I have now been told you have to apply now, and they give you some paper that says you have a applied and that along with birth certificate, and photo id will work temporarily.
I thought all you needed for now was a birth certificate and id. Can someone with actual knowledge...not just opinion...steer me in the right direction. I have my passport but am asking for a friend who would like to head to La Paz on Thursday for a few days but doesn't have his passport. He went to the Post Offoce today and they told him it takes 2 weeks just to get back the form he needs that says he has applied. That doesn't sound right to me.
How about any of you guys that have been traveling to SQ, or PV? What have you been using if you don't have your passport? Thanks in advance for any and all input.

you need to have all paper work into the passport office a.s.a.p. go to the post office to do that. it will cost him around 170.00 to next day it to them but it will still take 8 weeks to get. after a week he can go to the passport sight and make a copy of the applacation with the app.# on it. that will work. if he has the airline ticket he can go down to the main office and get it in 1-2 days. go to TRAVEL.STATE.GOV to get all of the information you need. steve

you can still walk or drive accross the boarder with just a driver license,if you fly you will a passport or proof you have applied.try to get your mexico fishing license in the states before you go. if your license is being provided for you make sure you get it in hand and keep it with you at all times till you get home.if you have your icechest with you and thay ask to see a license at any point in the trip you better have it with you or you will be baying a $500.00 fine.

Here is some first hand dope....
I applied for my Passport in the first week of August, just received it last friday (Sept 14th). I had heard all the horror stories about how long it would take, but I thought it was extra fast. I did not do the expedite thing because my next LR trip is not until june. I'm not sure why it went so fast but I'm pretty stoked. I went down to the hillcrest post office and the lady that helped me out was real cool. I spent about 100 or so bucks, and I had to give them my Birth Certificate...which they kept with my application. I also got my photo taken there, I must say it was a real smooth process.

And thanks for the phone number lee, but they want 500 dollars and another 157 dollars for the app. to get me a passport in 24 hours. Little steep for me. I know, I know, should of had it already. Well I went to the post office and they said it would be 2 weeks. I asked them about just showing prove that I had applied, but they said that would take 2 weeks. Went to the Mex Consulate up hear in Orange County a couple of hours ago and they gave me a FMT form. It's a Right to be a tourist form. It is stamped and signed by the head dude up hear. She said that this should get me through the customs in La Paz, and back out the country. This country is going to be the problem without a passport is what she said. Anyone else know what a poor hick can do in a jam?

Don't need a passport for Mexico, if you aren't planning on spending another dollar down there again given all the issues. Well, I guess PV or Cabo different story and still ok.
