| San Quintin with K & M Offshore Sept 8 -11
We ( my bro mikey, my primo nate, dan and I) left S.D @ 1:00 PM got down to S.Q around 5:30 checked in and had a few brews. Talked to a few guys that did okay on the WSB
9-8 Sat we were the 1st boat out and skipped making bait as we could pick it up all day on jigs. Within 10 minutes I had a big yellow on the key lime 6 inch Big hammer.
Score for the day
1 yellow 25lbs
5 WSB up to 30lbs
Shit loads of huge cuda
lots of bass
A few casualties on the exotics should have landed a few more large yellowtal
9-9
More of the same
9 WSB (released about 5) up to 25lbs
Shit loads of cuda
Lots of bass
I got butt holed on a strait 80lb spectra fishing the 6 inch key lime Big Hammer….thick in the mat I straitened out the lead head….I had 16lbs of drag on that fish and could not stop it…I could see and feel it wrapping multiple stringers in 80 feet…..”butt holed”
9-10
It blew hard so we tucked in and fished calicos and caught some toads using darkside and key lime Hammers.
Shit loads of cuda and plenty of big bass
Calico up to 7lbs
9-11
Prime conditions with no wind and things were starting to improve but we pulled the plug super early because Nate got fucked up by one of those jumbo cuda….7 stitches on the thumb….good thing Kelly has all the stuff and skills to fix you up if something goes awry. Kelly had no problems taking Nate’s super fucked up thumb and doing as good a job as any doctor could do Nate had no pain or worries.
After releasing 50 Cuda a day it’s easy to get careless…getting careless just once could cost you some stitches.
Nate did catch a nice yellow that day on the iron and was super stoked.
1 yellow 25lbs
and lot’s of big bass
It’s been said here many times….if you’re fishing in S.Q; it’s a no brianer fish with K & M…..I talked to at least three groups of fishermen who were bummed that their pangas broke down or their skipper wanted to fish rockfish.
The skippers with K & M speak English and will tell you everything that is current and let you decide what you want to do. Oh and if comfort, safety, and the best chance to catch fish is what you want…..book K & M.
Even though the water temps dropped 10 degrees in the few days we were there, we had great action. Kelly worked very hard and covered a lot of area and we had constant action.
There were acres of bait and it should go off any day again; as we were leaving S.Q one skiff pulled in with 4 fish from 50 to 60 lbs.
I was amazed we did as well as we did given the extreme temp change
I don’t have the pics yet….I will throw them up when I get them.
Best Baja commute I ever had no hassles coming or going, we traveled in the day. We had a big laugh at the military check point just past Ensanada….My Spanish is not too great and they joked with me a bit……The captain who pretended not to speak English broke out laughing @ me…..and asked why the only word I understood was “mota”…I said that’s a trick question…..We all laughed and he waved us through.

Oh , and nice tube shot avatar, Sage! | I suspect it was a WSB, it bent the Owner jig head after a smoking run through the weeds....when I hooked it the fish just shook its head for about 10 seconds and I knew it was a big fucker.............It took the worst route possible I never had a chance.

It was nice to finally meet you Dennis. The trip was pretty fun despite the poor conditions!! Looking forward to fishing with Kelly again!
Hopefully Nate can control his stomach on the next trip. I would hate to see him walking and cupping his butt again while trying to make it back to the hotel room HAHAHAHA!!!!
Dan
BTW your Loomis rod is on the way for replacement.

Good too see you made it back! Too bad about the conditions. I am sure they will be better in a couple weeks!
