| East Cape - Tuna, Dorado Marlin & More. .
Fish out of the Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort May 19 - 24 with a group of 21 R&R Radio listeners.
Got a call from a friend while I was at the resort. "DUDE, I just heard the East Cape report. Fishing is EPIC and you're there. Way to go!!"
Fishing was o.k. but not epic. More stupid reports. When will these guys learn to give an honest report??
My personal count was not that good but the group altogether did very well.
My count was:
Day one: Limits of Y'fin 30 to 55 pounds. Good day!
Day two: zip - Boat got two tuna 20 & 25 pounds. - Day! I guess it's all good.
Day Three: One dodo, baited a lot of marlin, no eaters. Got w'ho'd and lost 1/2 of the skirt off my favorite marlin lure.
Day four: zip - Boat got one dodo 22 pounds short bit two marlin baited about one thousand others but no eaters. Saw a wahoo go airborn at least 25 feet straight up.
Day five: Gave up on the marlin after about three hours. Went inshore and loaded up on reef fish. Tried to get a big (35-40 lbs) rooster to take the fly off of the pier no luck. Had another about 40 pound Jack Cravelle take a pass at the fly but didn't eat it. Esaul, the resort owner baited a big jack off the pier with a bass rod and was on for about an hour. Good stuff.
The group altogether did pretty good. Jill from Texas caught her very first fish, a 30 pound rooster then followed up with a 25 pound dodo. One boat released five marlin and kept 20 tuna 30 to 40 pounds.
Best part was the Sunday eve party. The Tecate girls showed up with free Tecate beer for every one. We had a mexican guy with a guitar singing Rancho Grande and La Bomba during our party. Not too bad, but that was after I had consumed mucho maggies, a couple of pina coladas, some takillya shots and a lot of Tecate. Hey, it was a party! I hope I didn't sound too wasted on the radio show. I think I handled it pretty well.
I'll put up some pix when I get a round tuit.
We're going back August 22-26. and the fishing will be epic! I think I'll lay off of the ta-kill-ya tho. Gave me a headache.
I'm going on the Indian next Tuesday for a day and a half of chasing tuna and throwing iron on the paddies for 'tails. I'll report back after that endeavor.
