LABOR DAY IN SAN CARLOS

Hello To All,
Planning a trip to San Carlos for Labor Day weekend. I little divind a lot of drinking and hopefully some fishing. Does anyone here have info on the pangas or rentals. Found info on the charter fleet. $70 per hour has been about the cheapest one. I'm on a much tighter budget than that. Info on bait, lures, locations would be very helpful as well. If nothing else, what about simply fishing off the beach?

Thanks In Advance,

Phil

Re: LABOR DAY IN SAN CARLOS

San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico

I am sure there are no pangas for rent there.. (unless you can find one of the local fishing guys) .. the marina has businesses for charters.. and that has eliminated the pangas.. it is not at all like BAJA..

the fishing and drinking is great there............ but you may as well bring a boat.. cause it will cost you plenty to find a charter...

I see that you have a skeeter.. if the seas are flat . use that.... it is only 12 miles out to the reef everyone fishes.. and the close in shore fishing is not a bad way to go.. (not fished much as the "game" fish are so prevalant at the reef and further out.. I fished the bottom for great Yellowtail action in the summer.. and lots of bass on the shore line...........

but the sails and marlin are out about 20 miles.. and the winds can come up quickly....

Re: LABOR DAY IN SAN CARLOS

the skeeter is broken with a blown up lower unit right now. It's a freshwater bass boat anyway. I was just hoping for something other than the charters.
Thanks for the response.

Re: LABOR DAY IN SAN CARLOS

Talk to Vinny at Sonora divwe center. He had or still has a twin engine panga thats set up nicely to fish.

The slow cruisers at the cooperativa are about $30 an hour. One of the captains is good at rigging split tail mullet.

I personally think that the bottom fishing was pretty much fished out years ago there, so look for dorado, sails and the occasional blue marlin.

Fishing off the beach stinks unless your up for some 4 whelel action north, and that still isn't much.
