| Castros info
Was hoping someone could help me answer a few questions on castros camp.
1. Duh... how do I get there, don't think I completely understood the person on the phone.
2. Also do I have to purchase a mexico fishing license before going down?
3. Are there gas stations on the way down there? Do they take credit card?
thanks

Mex. 1 to the turn off that has a sign. It's past Santa Thomas. L-o-n-g dirt road until you see the ocean. Right turn down the road a mile or so to Castros. You need a license before you get there. Bring cash if you have to buy fuel at the Pemex stations. Fill up before the border if possible. Can be very good fishing. WSB, Yellowtail, Rockfish.

The Pemex stations, as of June '07, do not accept any credit cards.

If you fill up at the border you should be able to make it back and forth on one tank. Just to stay on the safe side I always put in some gas in Ensenada on the way back just in case the border wait is really bad.
A few miles after you pass the town of Santo Tomas you will see the sign for Erendira. Take the turn off, its a bit of a narrow road but its been repaired and is much smoother now. Once you get to the town its all dirt road. Dont run the only stop sign in the town, its right in front of the police station. Keep going until you have two option, into the pacific ocean or make a right, make the right and it will be on your left hand side.
Make sure you take ziplock bags for your fillets.

if you spend the night in the cabins take along a bug bomb to vacate the little critters. Bring some toilet paper. They have charcoal grills and gas stoves in each cabin. It is 78km from Ensenada for the turnoff to Erendira. Its posted well. My friend has a toyota camry he filled up in San Ysidro and followed me down. He came back with plenty to spare. You probalr don't need an additional mex permit as I understand it your reciept from them also serves as the permit. But you might double check that.

Everyone will need to have their Mexican Licenses, (even if you are bringing someone on the boat that is not fishing they need to have a license in Mexico). They do have them down there sometimes but you never know. Best to buy before you go to be sure.

Best bet is to get it and not worry.
