| La Paz Fishing Report, Fishermens' Fleet April 6
It looks as though the weather has finally straightened out down here, with coromuel winds in morning, coming over the fog banks in Todos Santos making the mornings feel like my old S.F. bay stomping grounds, and then warming thoughout the day as the wind shuts off mid morning. The water is warming, and with that the striped marlin and dorado are becoming more and more common 15-20 miles off shore of Cerralvo Island. The marlin in fact have become a bit of a nuisance, getting in way of dorado trollers, using either bait or jigs. Fritz got three stripers (90-140 lbs.) to the boat before 11:30 last Tuesday. We've taken dorado to 45 pounds this week, most are half that size, and while they are not in June numbers are becoming more regular by the day. Pargo and larger cabrilla are hanging out in the usual places, with a few Cubera Snapper to 25 lb. underneath the Mullet Snapper (to 25 lbs.) at Punta Perico. At the south point of Cerralvo there are Mullet Snapper, and a school of Amberjack from which we've taken fish to 34 lbs.. The trick to the Pez Fuerte is dead Molcate or Barrilete on 80 lb. fluoro leaders and 60 lb. mainline. The last 4 days have brought Wahoo to the Roca Montana area, with a two fish average per boat for a few hours trolling with Rapala cd14's and cd18's. Most of the Wahoo have been in the 25-35 lb. class, but there have been several in the 70-80 lb. class just to spice it up. Saturday I went fishing with Wahoo using some of Fred Archers' spreader bars, and while they did not take an Wahoo, I did hook up a 3 pound Molcate which was promptly eaten by a 130 pound Striped Marlin and I boated him on 40 lb. line in about 25 minutes. Talk about workin' up the food chain! We've got good quality fish, outstanding variety, with numbers growing across the board. It's startin' to get hotter, and by June 1st we should be in high gear. For those of you who haven't booked for our 3rd annual charity fishing tournament (The 2007 La Paz Classico) there are still a few boats, availble here at the office, or through Lynn Rose Travel in LA. Book early, book ofter,
Have Fun,
David Jones
