Departed Marina Coral at 0530 with a dozen live mackerel and a bunch of shit I bought at 99 Ranch as live bait is scarce in Ensenada Harbor with Mike not selling right now. Gordo's has 2 boxes in the Harbor to handle the Sportfishing Fleet. Bad Dog was the first boat at the inside of North Todos Santos Island where we left the yellowtail last Saturday. Charro showed up in his own boat, Sammy running a big private boat (couldn't read the name) and Shir-lee showed up late in the morning as I believe they were waiting on bait. Water was green and 58degrees with birds picking here and there. The yellowtail were small packs running hard with no chance to get on them and throw iron. Charro's first yellowtail was a seal's desayuno right next to us and he picked us up on the radio for a good laugh watching the seal throw the yellow back and forth. We then ran with him on blow ups with him beating us every time. The fish looked small coming over the side and we were close to each other. We tried it all......casting Tady 45's, my new Dart Special Scrambled Eggs, yo yo heavy Salas 6X Jr.'s Blue and Whites, Juan Lu threw some small anchovy looking jig, Gail flylined mackerel, I dropped half way down with a mackerel on a dropper rig. I gave up as more boats showed up to total less than a dozen, all Mexican. I watched Sammy's crew lift a few over the side as they didn't run on fish, they just parked in the area and waited it out. Mainly because he was skippering a big yacht. We heard about a local who pulled 8 lings out of "Killers" so we headed around the corner and pulled out a half dozen decent sized lings off the bottom with egg sinkers and mackerel. Then put out the Rapala CD14's for a boat load of 6 pound bonitos with double, triple and one quad jig strikes. Onto the ice immediately, then flash grilled in sesame oil covered in sesame seeds raw in the center.......oh yeah. Counting on a "Time of Day" deal I went around the corner and returned to the bite area and pulled up on some birds with the wind now blowing a little. One or two boats in the area as everyone but us went over to Bajo San Miguel for nada. We all opted for the remaining live baits and Gail got bit, and pulled it out, Juan Lu got the helmet as the yellow dropped the iron if you can believe that bad luck, I got my dick, Gail went back with a dropper and let him eat it longer and reeled up a nice 7 1/2 pound yellow. My weather service that I just subscribed to said small craft advisory, 7' seas and 15+ knots of wind. Think I'll cancel that one.
Summary:
On The Water Ensenada Report: Small packs of small (5-9 pounders) yellowtail breezing fast and hard at inside of North Point. No live bait available most of the time. Good Bonito fishing by trolling in several areas as well as offshore with fish ranging from 5 to 8 pounds. That's my experience...........Dog
