Damn... very sorry to hear this!
I'll be heading down to my place in Todos just before Christmas, hopefully they'll have found the fucker by then.
Here's the post.... please keep the AntiMexican police remarks toyourself. They won't be tolerated. Thanks My father was murdered south of Mulege!!!
My father was murdered south of Mulege
I was informed by the US consulate in Tijuana Sunday night that my 73 year old father, Lloyd Duane Curtis, had been stabbed three times and his Jeep was stolen. This happened sometime between Thursday and Saturday (9th-11th) of last week at Playa Armenta, south of Mulege. The people discovered his body on Sunday and then the police remembered seeing the Jeep on Friday(?) in Custiad Constitution. The people have no suspects and the detective's invesigation seems motivated by a desire to buy the Jeep from us. Naturally I am horrified by all this.
PLEASE look for this Jeep!!!
It is a WHITE 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 4.7L V8, with tan leather and a sunroof. The windows are slighty tinted (from the factory). It may be the Laredo model?
California License Plate # 5NRK326
It has a black roof rack that is easily visible and a large dent on the rear liftgate.
The radiator core support is also bent and you can see where it was cut off and welded back on. It has Bilstein shocks and a Rancho Steering Stabilizer.
If you see this Jeep please contact the local authorities. If you have other information and would like to contact me I can be reached at

I read about this on Baja Nomads as well but the information was edited, evidently they don't want to make the public too aware of the violent crime that is increasing in Baja. Although Baja is not as bad as mainland Mexico or some U.S. locations, it is evident that because of many factors travel in Baja is getting a little rougher. From T.J./Rosarito to San Felipe to Mulege and points in between I can not remember when so many highway related crimes have occured. Do not drive at night, camp alone near the highway and use common sense when traveling. Baja is still a great place but is growing more violent just as the rest of the world is...

This is bad news, and my prayers go out to his family.
The US consulate just came out with more travel warnings for Americans going to Mexico as we come into the high holiday season.
On the mainland, they are harvesting now and the druggies are kicking it up.
A federale plane inspector just got gunned down yesterday at the Mexico City airport, just like last year's "don't mess with us" message.
Over 13 policeman have been beheaded in Michoacan in the last 3 weeks and the heads where rolled like bowling balls up against the front step of the local police station. Tough argument against the $350 a policeman makes legitimately a month.
Yesterday in the same mountain farm town, 6 more cops where ambushed as they responded to a report of shotting and they found more than 1000 empty cartriges at the scene. These guys were alerted as to the possible danger, but never stood a chance.
And things are still dicey in the capital of Oxacca with the APO marches and teacher conflict that brought the federales in force to restore order in this capital when an american camerman was killed along with 3 other nationals after 6 months of protests over their allegedly crooked PRI govenor.
And the PRD party is trying to block Felipe Calderon, from taking his presidential oath of office in the traditional union headquarters on Dec 1st, but Felipe is showing some backbone and saying bring it on while he erects barricades and legislates that demonstrations will now have to be limited within reason inside and outside congressional chambers.
So there is more stuff in the local Mexican News that is making this a hot issue for the transitional government, but for me, life is the same where I live, just like for 99% of the other people in Mexico.
Hope it stays that way.

I'm Daniel Curtis, Duane's son. Thank you for your support. Any info or advice you can offer would be appreciated.
I made a mistake on 1 digit of the License plate #.
It's 5NRK826, not 5NRK326.
I think I've corrected this in most my posts.
I realize the license plate may be gone. But PLEASE look for this Jeep.
It's has a large dent on the rear liftgate to the left of the license plate.
There's also a large black roof rack, about 4ft x 4ft x 1/2ft, made from thin steel round tube and rod.
The radiator core support is bented, it was cut off and straighten, and then poorly welded back on (local Baja fix).
The shocks are yellow and blues Bilstein shocks that can be seen from the rear.
From the front you can see a red and white Rancho Steering Stabilizer on the front axle.

Dan,
So sorry to hear about your father. This is a horrible story and must be very difficult for you and your family. My wife and I live in Loreto, and we drive all over the area. We will be watching for the Cherokee everywhere we go.
