| White marlin in Cabo?
Has anyone ever heard of a white marlin being caught in Cabo/East Cape? I realize this species isn't supposed to live in the Pacific but I did in fact catch about a 70 lb one about 10 years ago. I am POSITIVE it was a white marlin - I am just curious if anyone has heard of this happening in this region.

yeah it's true. there are a few that get caught every once in a while. I didn't want to believe it for a long time and even called bullshit without pics until I actually saw, touched, and triple checked to be sure it was whitey!! One caught by capt steve on the High Maintenance out of PV about 3 yrs ago.

got a buddy here in PV and he has a old b/w photo of a white he caught off mazatlan in 65 or 66. Almost came to blows with him when I was telling him he's full of shit.(this was back when I knew it all and had all the answers). I have mellowed and been humbled many times since. By the way....you might be losing your mind anyways |

Yeah, I've been told I was full of shit for years over my white marlin story and stopped mentioning it since I was tired of arguing about it. The fish bit in a flurry of sails and was the 3rd fish to the boat - my friend Ernie that owns the panga witnessed the catch and identified the fish - he said it was only the 2nd one he'd seen in his lifetime of fishing Cabo.

Seen pix in Mags, they are way cool. Can't imagine keeping one. Take a pic and have a trophy made if you want one.

A couple guys in Hawaii thought they might have caught white marlin but after being laughed at they just called it a striper and some good weed!
It is a fact that after taking dna test of blue marlin from both the Atlantic and Pacific they did find the Atlantic dna in several Pacific blues...

A few years ago Bob Van Wormer, Sr. (owner of Punta Colorada, Palmas de Cortez, etc.) told me that one of his boats had caught a white marlin on the East Cape and that they actually encounter a few over several years of fishing. I have never seen one personally on the Pacific side. I guess anything is possible since fish can swim about anywhere they want to. In 1997 I caught a 45 lb tarpon on the Pacific at Pinas Bay, Panama when I was fishing for roosters. Came back to the spot and hooked another one on a PILI popper and it jumped off at boatside. My crew had never even seen ONE in their entire lives.
