Bob Bethel (Gordogringo)
Bahia De Los Angeles, SE side of the big island, on Guillermo's Super Panga
Gold LX 6/3 with 40#mono, Mustad gorilla hook w/ring, trolling live bait
6/2/06
We went out that morning on glassy smooth water and loaded up on the perfect size bait for big Yellowtail. I got pounced on within 30 minutes by a big strong line breaking toad, and spent the next 30 minutes being pissed at having too much drag. My partner led off with a 22# Yellowtail, I followed with a 26# Yellowtail, then he bagged a 32#er that I thought would be hard to beat on any given day. About another hour later I hooked up on this 42#er, took about 275-300 yards of line,I just let him run and run. It gave me 4 great runs and I new I had a trophy Yellowtail on my hands. When this thing came to color, I was floored. Another major Yellowtail on my line!!! In all we caught 5 Yellowtail, totalled 143 pounds, and had a great time. Keep in mind, it is difficult to pose a 42# stiffy, but you can just see how much fun I am having, no BS...
Now the reel shows in this pic too, but just not as good, just thought you would enjoy another look at this awesome fish. I love my AVET, and I really think I could have bagged two if I had my drag a little lighter first thing in the am!!!
Thanks for the consideration, and FYI, the Yellowtail on the left is not the same as this one, I caught that last year in 325 feet of water, almost the same location, on Guillermo's older super panga. Same hat, glasses, shirt, belt, different day. I am going to wear that shit everytime I fish now!
