Bay of L.A. and Camalu 5-27 to 6-4

There is no problem with the road Highway1 and the road to Bay of L.A. you can drive it 75 mph with no real problems, slow down in towns and having offroad lights are a big plus. As far as fishing goes way to much baite in the water and the water was 68 to 70 in some spots. Big suid all over the place, really wanted to get yellow tail 1 or 20 well that did not happen, but what did happen was this nice little place Camalu. It has a hotel ,sportfishing, and what this trip was all about YellowTail! So I got 0 in Bay of L.A., 3 in Camalu. So next trip down we will stop Camalu in stead San Quinte.

Ray, thanks for the report, bummer about no tails at BOLA....sheetz, hope the deal is better by the time we get there (June 16-19) for some yellows.

Wish we could do 75 mph (with a boat dragging behind).

Where did you fish.....around only the immediate islands? Down by Soldado or Animas?

Damn squid, they are a pest and a nightmare to release sometimes. Thinking of bringing a battery operated carving knife for a nice clean release, instant chunk bait, too......!

Re: Bay of L.A. and Camalu 5-27 to 6-4

Dave, if you pull an aluminum boat, 75 is possible. My last trip back was 12 hours to the border, 3 stops for gas, as I filled the boat in Ensenada with the better priced gas, and that is with a 1/2 ton pick-up.
You have a little more weight to pull. I like to do it in two sections, leave in the early afternoon to SQ (now I may have to try Camalu, but it looks like a dirt road to the beach, launching unknown) then as easy of a drive as M1 is for another couple of hundred miles. Breakfast in El Rosario, and the drive took us until early afternoon to BOLA. Gas up and launch, the kids bring the boat to Gecko, tie it up, and I put the shore dingy together. We are having dinner and I am having cold ones by 4:00.
Y'all drive careful. At least for me the worst part is the hills between San Quintin and Ensenada. Too much traffic as compared to below SQ. Hope to make it down there over the 4th of July. Looking forward to your report.
