WEEKS STARTS WITH HOWLERS AND ENDS WITH YELLOWTAIL - CABIN CLASSIC THIS WEEK - FISHING PHOTO OF THE WEEK
YELLOWTAIL TO THE RESCUE
Lots of wind earlier in the week finally gave us a break as the week came on, but earlier it was almost impossible to fish. However, when we finally got on the water, fish were waiting. Yellowtail bite wasn't spectacular, but steady and fish were there to try to get out've the rocks and pinnacles. What we lacked in numbers we made up for in quality with a number mossback type yellowtail in the 25-40 pound class. The bigger the fish, the more likely to be hunkered down in the structure and harder to catch. Smaller fish ran in schools. Not so many pargo this week, but possibly because more guys are concentrating on the yellowtail, but we got some of the red and yellow snapper as well as cabrilla. I"ll be on the water all week so look for the updates!
CABIN FEVER CLASSIC
For all you amigos signed up for our 5th Annual Cabin Fever Classic (March 30 to April 3), thanks for coming down to help officially kick off the season!!!!
As is always the situation this time of year, I have no idea what we might be catching, but we'll have some fun! The yellowtail are there as are the pargo. That's the good news. The bad news...these are two of the feistiest species to put in the boat! They'll bite, but they head straight into the rocks! The bigger they are the stronger they are and while not capable of sustained runs like tuna that will strip your reel, they don't have to go very far in a bullish dash to the caves and crevices where they lurk! We're not fishing deep water so the trick is to stop them. For other species, cabrilla are a lot of fun if you like catching a larger version of largemouth freshwater bass, except these fish can get up to 15 pounds and have teeth. I also look forward to us hopefully getting into sierra as well. If all of us bang up a batch of sierra everyday, that would be just hilarious fun and great eating. It could be windy so bring a sweatshirt or windbreaker until the sun comes up.
AIRLINE PRICES
As we get closer to summer, seems like tickets into La Paz are edging up like prices at the gas pump. It's all fuel related. Prices are getting closer and closer to the $300 mark round trip in and out of town.
