launching a bigger boat in Puertocitos

I'm gonna take the 21 footer down this year instead of the tin boat. I wanted to launch at Puertocitos and then work our way to Alfonsina's in Gonzaga on the boat for a couple nights.

I had a couple questions:

What is the ramp like in Puertocitos?
Is there a place to leave my superduty for a couple days that will allow it to stay mine for when I return?
I don't like the idea of towing the boat down the shitty road to Gonzaga, but maybe I'm beibng paranoid? Anybody done it?

Thanks,
Jim

Re: launching a bigger boat in Puertocitos

It's been quite a few years ,but I've lanched my 18' stringari there. They say it's good for up to a 26 footer.Ramp is steep and bay is shallow try to lanch and retrive at high tide. From there we ran to gonzaga by way of the islands. we left the truck and trailer at the round bar.Watch out for the wind.I've also towed down Alfonsinas roads a bitch but conditions change. Good luck it's a fun trip

Re: launching a bigger boat in Puertocitos

been a few years here too, but I took an inflatable, on a trailer. The road past san felipe was terrible, and the ramp is really steep....high tide launch and retrieve only...not going to happen with anything less than that. Was there in spring and dive conditions were not good, vis very poor. Maybe the offshore islands it would be better. I've been down to Gonzaga too....I would question doing it again in a car, a trailer NO WAY.

Re: launching a bigger boat in Puertocitos

Many of us have launched from Puertocitos, for me the last time was last Thanksgiving. You have to launch and retrive with the tide. Tide tables are here:http://www.tides.info/?command=view&...orte%2c+Mexico, although there are other sites. I have been told that props disappear overnight sometimes, so if you pull into the campground, pay a few bucks a night to have the "guard" watch your truck.
The road was very good from San Felipe, except for the last 10 miles. The road was paved at one time, but there are now big chunks of pavement missing. Take it slow, and let the tire pressure down to 25 to 30 PSI on the trailer. You can fill them back up just before you get to San Felipe.
Take the road out of town to the airport, and the only left turn before it will head you in the right direction. If you hit the airport, head back and the first right. Mission ??? the sign said. There was a checkpoint right after you made the turn.
I have also done the dirt road to Ganzaga, without a boat. It took me 4 hours, I would guess almost double that with a boat. Have a good trip.

Re: launching a bigger boat in Puertocitos

I did the dirt road to gonzaga and it took 6 hours going real slow.Went in the chapala route and out the puertocitos route. Its doable but who knows what might break, screws come loose and things fall off. i di it with a 15 foot crestliner. it also depends on the rain that has been falling, alot of rain, no go.

Re: launching a bigger boat in Puertocitos

thanks for all the help guys. We're gonna launch in pertecitos and jam to gonzaga by boat and stay at alfonsina's.

I expect the viz to be poor given that its spring, but the snapper and grouper have always proven to be there then.

If anybody else is down that way I'll be on Channel 9 while we're in the boat, or maybe we'll see you at the hotel.
thanks again,

Re: launching a bigger boat in Puertocitos

Highway 1 to Gonzaga, washboard city. Road to Puertocitos okay but take it slow, vados and potholes. Park truck at the top by the ramp or by the hotel. Be sure to make reservation at Alphonsinas if your going next month, spring break is usually busy... watch for rocks... on the road and underwater...

Truck only comsidering no washouts, 1 hour 45 minutes at a fast pace, 2 hours 30 minutes at relaxed pace. I think its 36 miles. Pop some beers and enjoy the scenery.
