EVERYONE LOVES SNAPPER - FRED HALL FISHING SHOW LONG BEACH - - PHOTO OF THE WEEK
Sorry we're a day late with the fishing reports this week, amigos. Still recovering from the Fred Hall Fishing & Boating Show this past week! But I wanted to welcome all the new amigos who signed up for the report. Here goes!
WINDY SNAPPER WEATHER
I think most of the city has been recovering from about a week of Mardi Gras that ended on Tuesday and, while not on the level of say, Rio de Janiero, La Paz knows how to par-TAY! Things are slipping back to normal and that's about what it is for fishing too...fairly normal for this time of year. Water temps are in the high 60's although warmer north of the city around Espiritu Santo Island than around Las Arenas and Cerralvo. Pargo are starting to be seen in larger numbers although they're not exactly schooling up just yet. More yellowtail in the counts and everyday, it seems like someone tells me about a fish or two they just couldn't budge out've the rocks and busted off. Yo-yo iron still triggers strikes on the honey holes if you're cranking scrambled egg or dorado patterns. The yellowtail bite around Muertos Bay and Punta Perrico sure looks promising. Sierra and cabrilla are also great inshore fishing.
FRED HALL FISHING & BOATING SHOW LONG BEACH
Whew...still recovering from what they're calling the the largest show they have ever had shattering old attendance records at the Long Beach Convention Center. If the previous record was about 300,000 over 5 days then that's an incredible number. Tell ya what, it sure feels like I've talked to about that many folks. My voice sounds like I've been a smoker and drinker all my life. My legs hurt from standing 12 hours/day. However, what a great time. Great to see so many of you again plus make new friends. Thanks to all of you who brought food; came by to wish me a happy birthday or wanted to comment about my column in Western Outdoor News,
Next on the agenda...
March 8th - Turner's Fishing Club at the International House of Pancakes in Pasadena at 7 p.m.
March 9th - Santa Barbara Yacht Club Fishermen at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum at 7 a.m.
March 16-19 - Salt Lake City, Utah for the International Sportsman's Expo in Sandy Utah.
C'mon down and say hello!
PHOTO of the WEEK
Jeff Sakuda and Marianne Sugawara from Monterey Park CA make several trips a year to La Paz. Their first trip of the year this past week produced some nice pargo lisa (mullet snapper) and this nice yellowtail fishing live bait. They lost several other fish in the rocks fishing both Las Arenas and La Paz. Marianne wants everyone to know she caught the largest of the two pargo.
That's my story!
