Re: bahia de los angeles

I would suggest bringing at least one of each, especially if you are planning to fish.

Re: bahia de los angeles

i was there early april a few years back. some guy caught a 38# yellowtail about a 100yrds off the beach but they said it was just a fluke and rarley happens. i caught a lot of bass on little irons, but they were wide open, i think i caught 22 in 30 minutes or something like that. I also caught a grunt i think it was called that went about 10#'s. so i'd take some 15-25# setups and a 30-40# setup. good luck. hope this helped.

small spnning reels with 2-4# test...fish in mexican waters are usually really forgiving and are so very sweet ...also a kayak

Re: bahia de los angeles

I would take the following:

1 20# setup for making bait
1 30# setup for small bait rig
1 40# setup for heavy bait rig
1 50# yo-yo rig

Re: bahia de los angeles

HELL, BRING EVERYTHING!!

Unless you have a specific species you are planning on targeting you really need to be prepared for anything. The end of March really isn't considered prime Yellowtail time there but this weeks report on mexfish.com has them catching them up to 30# when the weather allows it. Bring everything with you and then take out whatever the conditions and your plan for the day dictates.

10# bass rods are a kick for cabrilla and triggers. Don't throw back all of your triggers. They are great eating. The trick to cleaning them is to poke the knife into them then cut from the inside out. You need to bring a stone regardless.
20# and sabikis will get you bait and work well for larger cabrilla or tossing iron at Yellowtail boils.
40-60# for yo-yo and with 60-80# you might be able to turn that Grouper before he rocks you.

Of course the winds are always a strong possibility at that time so you might not have to bring anything.

If you check out the archives on www.mexfish.com it will give you a better idea of what you should at least expect.

Re: bahia de los angeles

Just like everyone has said you need to have a wide range of set-up's. You never know what you are going to get into down there. Be carefull when the winds come up it can get really bad down there. I will be down there the end of March also just a few days between the 28th and April 1st. Have Fun and Be Safe

Re: bahia de los angeles

my two cents, lots of lead 12-16oz torpedos, just incase you fish the high spots dropping down baits. tight drags and crank like there's no tomorrow when u get picked up. heavy line 80lb test, 150lb for grouper.

Re: bahia de los angeles

I wouldnt fish anything less than 40#. I have had my ass kicked plenty of times on sixty so thats not a bad idea either. The heavier the better I think.

Re: bahia de los angeles

You should bring at least one yo-yo rig, a trolling rod, and a heavy rig with at least 80#. Also bring a wind breaker cause it is going to be very windy. Bring a few Insore rods for little stuff of the rocks. Just be sure to bring some warm cloths too. Nights + wind= Deathly cold
