| San Ysidro Border Incident 2/02/06
Mikey and I ran down to the trailer in La Salinas on Tues./Wed. this week.
As we came back across the border I noticed new machines on either side of every lane. In fact Mikey pointed out that there was an extra stop light just before the crossing.
We figured it was some kind of sensor or X-Ray.
I was just talking to another salesman in my office. He has been undergoing cancer treatments in Tijuana for a year. He had a treatment yesterday and came back across the border about 1:00 pm.
As he was heading up the 5 fwy. he was surrounded by police cars and pulled over. This 60 y/o gentleman was pulled out of his car, proned out, cuffed, and transported to an unknown facility. He was interrogated for several hours and constantly asked to tell them where "The stuff" was.
He was terrified.
Eventually, because he had the doctor info on him and his story checked out, he was released. The sensors at the border crossing are so sensitive that he set them off with the residual radiation in his body!!!!!!!
The cops thought he had, or was around, a nukular....knucular......newqular.....awwww caraaappp...nuclear device!
True story.

Pretty crazy shit. I seriously doubt a nuclear weapon would be brought accross the border in such a fashion. Most likely, it would be smuggled through one of those underground tunnels that was recently discovered. At least the government has their eyes open for such a device.

Thank God at least a small portion of the funds appropriated for Homeland Security is going to something at our borders. Sorry to hear that the old guy got the not so polite intro to the border guards. I agree, better safe than sorry.

That's unsat Chuck, you'd think that the customs agents would use a little better discretion than that. BTW, those machines are called Vaccus machines.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Well, maybe now he can call Goldberg and Osbourne and sue the shit out of the feds and get enough to buy that 64' Hatteras before the cancer kills him.
Hey, it's bad enough going through chemo, let alone having the government imprison you for a couple hours as being a "human dirty bomb." It's the cancer, stupid! What a fucked-up police state we're becoming in the name of "national security."
Okay, so I'd have to be a really, really fucking stupid terrorist to drive across the border at a major point of entry like San Ysidro with da nuke. Hardly. I'm going to Arizona, New Mexico, or Texas and drive right across where they ain't nobody around to see me. If they really wanted to have da nuke here, it probably already is.
A few new high-dollar radiation detectors are your (and my) tax dollars at work. And the only work they're doing is giving some of the gullible a false sense of security.
Personally, I think we should just station Jack Bauer at the border. He can handle it.

Don't like the security? Fine, then go live in an unsecured country that hasn't lost several thousand innocent cilivians in terrorist attacks. Personally, I want whatever measures possible used to protect our borders. And yes, sometimes they are going to screw up because, well, thats what humans do. And going out and hiring a lawyer everytime somebody gets their panties in a wad is far more to blame for the problems in this country than border security.
Pretty damn comedic when you piss and moan about your tax dollars being wasted on security measures and then advocate a lawsuit against the feds which would be paid out with....DUH.... YOUR TAX DOLLARS!
I don't think you have a fricken clue what "they're doing" to secure this country, but I could be wrong. Probably not, but I could be.

Please explain to me the logic of harassing our own citizens that cross the border legally when any bad guy can hop-skip-jump across it with impunity virtually anywhere in Arizona?
Yeah, people fuck up. All of us, including me. I wasn't advocating that the guy sue, just that's the way these things seem to go. Somebody wronged you, so sue. Seems to be the American Way these days, is it not? Frankly, he'd probably have a good case.
As for "security" -- card-carrying member of the American Legion here. 10 years worth of sailing around the big ponds on the USS America and the Independence. I'd say I took it seriously enough, still do. But, let's not be a bunch of fucking retards in the name of security, okay? A 60 year old man with proof he's under doctor's care for cancer? Yeah, there's a real threat. Let's hold him for a few hours and harass him, just to be sure he's not a terrorist.
Let's throw out another one I heard on the news last week - a 1 1/2 year old baby that they wouldn't let fly with his parents because his name somehow showed up on the terrorist "Do Not Fly" list. Yep, must have been toxic diaper syndrome!
Before this thread turns into a fuckfest of "love it or leave it", I'm all for security when it's applied with some degree of common sense?! Remember common sense? When people made decisions based on the actual situation, instead of blindly following rules/orders?? When it degrades to the point of people with authority blindly following orders, you indeed end up with a police state. And that's the scariest part of everyone of these stories I hear.
Peace. |
