SLUGGER TUNA SURPRISE - DORADO AND MARLIN SHARE STAGE - TRADE SHOWS COMING UP - WHALE WATCH SEASON - CABIN FEVER CLASSIC - PHOTO OF THE WEEK
PROSPERO ANO NUEVO!
Hey Pescadores! Sorry for not doing a report last week. In about 10 years of doing this weekly, I think I"ve missed all of 4 times not doing a report. So, last week it was Christmas on Sunday plus I had some of this crud that seems to be going around so apologies. We're back up at full speed and wanta wish you all the very best for 2006. Here we go...
TUNA BAD BOYS END THE YEAR!
Incredibly, for the first time I can remember in a December, we had tuna blow up on us this week. For our boats that fished the Muertos/Las Arenas area all of a sudden one day they were there right outside the bay and also under breezing porpoise schools right near the drop off just offshore. Oh wow...these weren't footballs either, amigos. Au contraire...fish were 30 and up to 65 pounds with some bigger fish lost! Where were these fish in August and September? Anyway...there were to solid days of tuna then a few here and there since then. It wasn't wide open, but the boats nicked up 2-4 fish but the quality of the fish were so nice and such a surprise that no one was complaining. Especially because there were also 10-15 pound dorado also biting. Hard to believe it's winter.
That's right, in addition to the tuna, dorado continued to chew. Certainly not like summer, but the pangas still rolled on 1-4 dorado per day mixed in with a good bite of small pargo, lots of sierra in the 3-10 pound range. Also...unbelievably...3 marlin hooks up as well! Go figure. I wouldn't count on this continuing, but wow...who knows?
I know I usually post reports directly from our clients, but Professor Llew Williams is one of our best amigos. He came all the way from Florida to rip some lip with us. The Professor had such a hoot, he was moved to write a poem about his experience! Check it out...It's a gem!
Fishing with Tailhunters Once again with Jonathan, but will his crew repeat That special people-handling that has always been a treat To know that pick-ups will occur at the time that you decided And food and drink thats promised are readily provided Theres no way anyone can guarantee the fish will bite But with pangeros such as Victor, your day is outta sight . With good communications among the fishing crew They find the fish, they set you up, the rest is up to you. I urged a younger couple to join me in the fray And from their smiles and catch I'd say they had a special day Its risky during Christmas week, not noted for production But it turned out just the kind of day for newbie introduction. For though the swift dorado were scarce and hard to find, The pod of serious tuna was enough to blow your mind. No matter if you measure using pounds or metric scale This home-guard pod of tuna could pin you to the rail. Not the little footballs you can wrestle to the boat, But 60, 80 pounders put your heart right in your throat . They say that things get slow around the ending of the year, But dont you try to tell that to the folks that we had here It was a day of capture that would rival a personal best And made me sorry that I didnt bring a bigger chest. So if such fishing, off the charts, just might appeal to you, Try it once, and youll become tailhunter through and through.
I know it's raining and cold in a lot of places in the U.S. right now, but in La Paz...a chilly breezy 75 degrees. Cool in the mornings but great sunshine by 10.

WHALE WATCHING SEASON ABOUT TO KICK OFF
If you ever wanted to go check out the gray whales, they are going to start showing up soon at Bahia Magdalena, San Ignacio and Scammons Lagoon. Usually January to March are prime time to get right up close to the whales. Great family experience as the whales come right up to the pangas in calm inshore waters where the whales are close. If you're interested, write back a
riplipboy@aol.com. Many good dates are filling up.
CABIN FEVER CLASSIC
If you are planning on joining us in La Paz March 28 to April 3, for our Cabin Fever Classic, make sure you let us know. Things are filling up for this popular event. We had almost 40 people last year and will be hosting it at La Concha Beach Resort with 3 days of fishing and hanging out. If you think you're gonna need to get in some sun and sand and blue waters because it's been a long winter, get in touch with us ASAP. Have no idea what we'll catch and that's what's fun about it. At night, we go hit tacos and stuffed potatoes and other good stuff. Price is $600 per person double occupancy. Fire an e-mail at

PHOTO OF THE WEEK http://www.bloodydecks.com/gallery/files/8/1/2/4/DoradoVerdaTim300tag.jpg Tim Zimmer and Verda Boyd fish a lot and were making their first trip to La Paz...in December. I told them fishing might not be too good because it was winter. They insisted. Well...turns out they wacked the dorado out've Muertos Bay. Here's a few of their dorado. Captain Victor lends a hand.
That's my story!
