holiday report

Hi all,

Wanted to say merry, merry and happy tidings to all.

It's been a great year so far and it just keeps on goin'. The weather is still killer - 80 degree days with the water 72+. Still manage to catch a few dorado and Yellow Fin Tuna with tons of small Yellowtail around. Really enjoying my time here. The last BIG WNW swell wrapped around the point bringing perfect peelers to us for xmas with very few people to share it with. All that being said, I think the best part of living here is the warmth of the local folks.

Feliz navidad.

Re: holiday report

Surfdoc - I would expect Todos to be several degrees cooler, it always is. Looks like you have plenty of surf on tap, though. Have a great trip.

Yea we get the Upwelling at Pastora..... will be taking some rubber with me just incase..

May have to take a side trip on the way home.. Last time I was there we stayed at I believe 3rd or 4th point.. and had 4-5' solid for 3 days.. with no crowd at all. But that was 7 years ago..

Hows the road from Mulege thru to San Isidro ?? Last time we went that way it was gnarly!

Re: holiday report

Take rubber for sure. The water is cold there in the winter.

The road from Mulege to San Isidro is pretty good, slow and rocky but you don't need 4WD. If you are coming up from Todos Santos just stick to the paved road north through Insurgentes (don't take the turn to Loreto) to La Purisima. From there it's only 35 miles on a graded road. You can take the north road out, it takes you right up to San Ignacio. It's over 100 miles of dirt road but it is in pretty good shape and it's a cool drive.

It's beautiful here, the campground is open, and there aren't many people here this time of year. Just so you know, it's not a winter surf spot so you never know if you are going to score. The last swell made it around but it is rare, it can be flat here for long stretches (even in the summer). The fishing has been fun and, weather permitting, I'm always up for going out. You can learn more about he campground at www.scorpionbay.net.

Send a PM if you are headed up this way. My place is right at first point (gringo hill). Just ask anyone where Jack lives and they will point you in the right direction.

Re: holiday report

The water stays pretty warm all winter (68+), The cold water comes in April thru June. It drops to the high 50s. The halibut bite is on from the beach at that time so that makes up for it. It's about a 15 hour drive from the border, it's a bit of a haul but it's a pretty place. It's warm right now and the wind is calm. It turns windy in the spring (feb thru March), of course, it can get windy any time of year (it's baja afterall).

Jack:

I am pissed. On a bad day you go fishing or surfing. On a great day you go fishing and surfing. So jealous. Let me know when you are coming up to Leucadia.
