Lopez Mateos - Does anyone know about ???

Leaving tomorrow to meet the Pacific Venture there for 4 days of offshore fishing. What should I expect in travel surprizes and what is the "town" like?
Is there a place to buy supplies on the way from the Loredo airport?

I live just north of there, in San Juanico. I have not been to Lopez Mateo but I think it is just a small little town. You will pass through Insurgentes on the way to Lopez but there are only small tiendas there as well. If you really want to stock up you can do so in Loreto (there is a small but adequate market) or in Ciudad Constitucion (south of Insurgentes about 20 minutes). There is a great super market at the south end of Constitucion called Super Lay. It is as good as any Vons in the states.

I've been meaning to get down to the esturary to fish and have some friends with family in La Poza Grande. We will launch there and fish the inland water down to Mag Bay. Hoping for snook, grouper and halibut.

I fished offshore today. The water is warm 72 - 75 and clear blue. Very little wind right now but I think we should see it build over the next few days. We had a slow day, five small dorado and one small yellowtail. It has slowed down a little inside (we stayed inside of 15 miles). I expect it is much better farther out.

You will have a great time. If you head out to Thetis I'm sure you will score.

Best of luck!

Oh, by the way, the drive from Loreto is easy. Expect it to take about three and a half hours (a little more if you stop for stuff). The road can have some potholes so be careful. And, be very careful if you drive at night.

I can't remember if the turnoff for Lopez is south of Zaragosa or not but if you go through Zaragosa go very slow - notorious speed trap. And, they usually want $150 US or more!

Have a great trip.

I live in La Paz and run our fishing business from there but we do whale watching out of Lopez Mateos in the winter. Not much there. Buy beer and staples and that's about it. Best bet and closest venues would be the stores in Constitucion. Good luck
