The Ridge

Had a chance to join some friends on a boat from San Carlos to SD. Great trip. Outside mag bay was on fire. Tons of stripers. And, tons of dodos as well - big ones. Even managed to haul in a 60# Yellow Fin Tuna. Stayed at Tosca one night and Santa Maria the next before we worked our way across the ridge. Wahoo city! Managed a quadruple hook-up with only the two of us on board. Threw a couple more large dodos on board before we decided to stop and fish the bottom to add a couple grouper to the list. Super good time. To top it all off the weather from Cedros to SD was so good we made it in 15 hours. Could have water skied the whole way to SD.

Back and San Juanico now. Glad to be home but the water has cooled down, below 70 now. Went out today but the only thing we found were small yellowtail. The last trip may have ruined me!

Re: The Ridge

Sounds bitchen!! Brings back very good memories from many years back.

I always loved pulling into Santa Maria and having a little change of pace and going into the mangroves and fishing halibut, snook, needlefish, cabrilla and little grouper, that was always a blast after fishing the bigger stuff for days, not to mention the lobster you can barter for as well as the shrimp boats that come in there, man would we score on shrimp!

Jack, did you manage to go into the mangroves there? Did you check out the surf off the point? I really miss that place, thanks for the bitchen report!

Re: The Ridge

Thanks, it was a great trip. The surf was flat when we were at Maria but I know how good it can get. There were still a couple of people in the surf camp. We pulled in late and pulled out early so no chance to fish inside. I have a trip planned with a couple of tin boat buddies to fish the mangroves from the north end (La Poza Grande) down. I love fishing for the small stuff, too. The mangroves are cool, it really feels exotic.

I tried to post pix but they didn't stick, I will try again.

Good to hear from you, Mike. Say hi to everyone for me. I talked to Banny the other day but he is the only one I hear from. Who do you see around?
