Man if these big tuna are still around and I see now reason for them not to, this years tourney will be a dandy. We got a 100lb and a 80lber a couple of days ago and a few boats reported fish up to 180lbs last week.
there was that one 330lb fish caught at the outer Gordo last week in a billfish tournament by a boat down rigging a big bait for blue marlin.
The wiegh station should be real busy this year.
I have lived here full time for around 5 years know and its the best I have seen.
The lower ridge this fall and winter should be going off big time. I already have several clients inquiring about the finger banks in dec.
This is what I moved down here for and I'm loving every day. Except when we get them stubborn clients that want marlin and dorado. I have hardcore clients all this week that mostly want big game so I will be pre fishing hard this coming week.
Looking forward to fishing with the Eat me lures team.

Uh, oh! Tournament is scheduled just after the full moon. Better than on the full itself, but still a picky time with the best tides being early and late.
I can't be there, but a lot of our bars will be.
I sure hope folks have theirs. They were developed right there in Cabo on a hardcore charterboat for it's exclusive use. We didn't sell them back then. Charter fishing is much like tournament fishing...you need to catch a lot of fish and you don't share what makes that happen for you with the competition.
One fellow who owns a boat down there put a VIP on my boat for
The Stars and Stripes Tournament several years ago down there. It is a mixed species tournament. The VIP wanted to win a tuna trophy in the worst way. We lost an engine on Day One of the two day tournament. We were in first place that day. He insisted on fishing with us the second, in spite of the fact that we couldn't repair the engine by then. We took first, second and third place in the tuna division. It had never been done before in any division in that tournament. They changed the rules after that so that only one place could be taken per species. All fish were SuperBar fish.
It was a very similar moon phase to the one for WON.
Good luck to all, no matter what you choose to fish with. And be careful out there...nothing is more important than crew safety.

| Watch out!!
The biggest thing you need to remember is to sleep on your back when in Cabo. Otherwise you may get a visit from that "Jerry" guy who gets frisky after he has a couple of rum/cokes... |

That is a great tournament. Simple, no bullshit rules but they are absolutely adamant about enforcing the ones that they have, and the result is none of the controversies and cheating, or accusations of same, like there have been in too many marlin tournaments. They usually get good support from the industry and I hope that good numbers of guys fish it. It is also a tournament where the small boat guys have a good shot at doing well.
Our video guy will be videoing on a boat to be named later. Whichever boat it will be, they'll be trolling lots of SuperBars. Keep an eye out for him and wave!
Wish I could be there, but can't.
Good luck all!

Can't make it this year. The fishing sounds promising. Hopefully someone will take home the Costa Del Mar contingency prize for beating our Tournament Record 318 Lb Yellowfin!!
