| Loreto fishing trip ideas w/son
I was thinking of taking my son down to Loreto for a long weekend in October. Does anyone have any good sources/referrals for setting this up? Is October a good time to go? My son is 8 so I'd rather not focus on the billfish but rather stuff he can pull on himself. Thanks for you input.

October is a good month to fish in Loreto, keeping in mind that it is hurricane season. And, I agree with Julie that the Oasis is a good choice of a place to stay for around $100. For getting in a panga you can go through Arturosport which is the biggest outfitter in Loreto and get a superpanga for $270, go with Baja Bigfish for something over $300, or go to the marina and find somebody you like for about $200. In October there will be plenty of pangueros looking for work, so you will be able to take your pick. With an 8 year old I would recommend Alvaro Murillo. Alvaro is an older panguero with a lot of patience and is a bona fide good guy. I hooked him up with a friend and his sons, 11 and 15, this summer and they caught fish and had a great time. If you want me to get you in touch with Alvaro, let me know.

I wouldn't use Aturo, I never have, but I have heard bad things about him. I would use the hotel boats, or Jose Torres.

Arturo is an ASSHOLE! Known him for over twenty years, he's the Al Capone of the Loreto fishing fleet.
Baja Big Fish with Pam Bolles is the way to go.

Contact Becky at Cass Tours. Cass Tours - Discounted fishing and vacation packages to Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Alaska, South America, Hawaii and Carribean She really took care of us setting everything up and giving some good recommendations.
We were there about two weeks ago and it was WFO Dorados. It would be great for your son as they are spectacular fighters but are not too big like a billfish.
I fished one day with Arturos and one day with Baja Big Fish. They both had advantages. For instance, if you are not bringing your own gear, Arturos boat had nice Advets on Ugly Sticks. Baja Big Fish had clunker Daiwas which could have been nice if they were kept up.
We stayed at the Inn at Loreto Bay which was very nice. The 4th night was free otherwise I would have stayed at the Oasis. The Bay Inn was a very nice resort, but is out of town. Arturos has a shack there where they pick you up and take care of your fish. Baja Big Fish wanted an additional $30 to pick me up there.
I never met Arturo and it is easy for someone to call him an asshole just as they could me or anyone else. A statement like that without foundation is as worthless as teenage name calling.
You should know that water, beer, food, and bait are extra.
We got the all-inclusive package which was worthwhile as the resturants and bars are NOT CHEAP! It was an extra $265 per person, which would have been my bar tab alone. The food was very good!
You will love it there. It is a clean little town where no street vending or beggars are allowed. And the fishing has been awesome.
Good luck,
Dave

Why not just fish out of the Oasis? They are awesome and pick you up on the beach in front of your room. If you want to fish inside for non stop pargo etc for your son they will do that. If you want to troll for hours outside for marlin one day they can do that! I always fish with the hotel, the guy meets you at dinner and sets you up, with lunch etc. Quick and easy! Especially since you have your son with you. Try it for one time, if you don't like it, drive to Torres's house and go out from there. The hotel is the way to go, you can just charge it to your room. Tip $ is all that is needed. I think the head of it ia Raul, a really nice guy. They always put me on fish, a first class act. Plus you are right in town and on the beach! You can walk to any restaurants you want. You want to be in town and not at the inn at Loreto Bay, that is for honeymoons and old people. Be in town, walk around, show him the church etc! You don't need a car at the Oasis. Everything you want is there.

WOW a intresting mix of comments...Let me clear things up for you...
Pam specializes in Fly fisherman and is not liked to well around town by the locals. If you heard the way she talks to them at the Marina you would know what I am talking about
Auturo is a A-hole as most on here have stated.
Oasis is the place to stay and fish out of.
What you should do is find out where the fish are biting or what kind of fish you want to target. Because if they are catching small Dodo's 4 miles of shore that's where they will want to take you and you will be in by 10. I am sure Bill Earhardt will tell you where the fish are. You see there may be good fishing just offshore but there may be GREAT fishing up north at Punta Pulpito or south to Santa Catalina. So make sure you choose a boat that can/will take you to these areas if the Bigger fish are there.
When are you planning on going in OCT.?
