went out with Big Steve, some other friends and some family, It wasnt the fish slaying we were hoping for and the water was bumpy!, it was my first time out on open water in the dark in our boat , and was a bit nerve racking, just kept Steves lights in front of me and away we went, My son was a little scared and and ended up pulling through like a champ for through the night run, he kept asking what time does the sun come up? Anyway we got some great bait out of Pt Loma but in the midst of the scoop of bait they gave us there was a big ass dead decomposing mackerel that they scooped up as well we didnt see it and when we finally got grey light and started fishing at least 60 percent of my bait had died, my cousin started to clean out the dead and after throwing the majority of the bait he saw the mackerel at the bottom and yanked it out , after that i think i had maybe 2 die for the rest of the day. We trolled a rapala , it was silver with a red head dont know the exacts on it ( ask Saluki he lent it to us ) but it got hit about 3 times that day, i also ran a cedar plug, black/purple jet head, micro bait o matic, and Zuchini broom tail. no luck on any other than the rapala on th troll. Picked up a small dorado on the troll first thing my son said his dream fish would be a dorado, so here we have one hooked, and i cant wake him up to come take the rod from me, oh well after screaming shoving and nudging him fish came unbuttoned and he remained sleeping, When he woke up he didnt believe us, oh well more trolling and then another dorado or as we heard some one else call the doritos they were small this one wasnt as big as we would have liked but it was his first and we kept it. Hours later we our our just off the 371 and we are trolling spot a little paddy troll by and wammo we have a yellow tail, nice size probably 20-25 lbs, throw a bait out and got another one, and this is when it went to crap for me, i could not keep a fish on, i busted of 2 hooks, and had 4 or more on that paddy pick up my bait i fought them they were hooked then all of a sudden bing , nothing reeled up to a emptied hook, i dont know what the hell i was doing wrong, drag to tght? size 2 hooks, to small? didnt let them eat it longer, ? i dont knoiw i never let up on the pressure either, Steve and Bob pulled up and they had the same thing happen. and whatever it was they were of quality size , they realy gave a tug! any way long troll back to SI with one more patty along the way and nothing under it, no sleep tired , my son sleeping on the floor on my left my cousin sleeping on the floor on my right, a monster energy drink and a beer and we headed home. All in all great day beautiful water color, good company, and I keep learning little more like program the spots in my gps, and dont put a map in my over head electronics box unless you want to donate it to the water gods.. oh yah and check your bait for big dead mackerel. Thanks Steve for holding my hand out there and making me go! you to Bob
