YellowTail Bonanza at Cedros Island 07.25-28.08

From July 25th to 28th we ran a fly-in trip with 5 friends from ffice:smarttags" />San Diego and LA. Arriving on Friday we went fishing same afternoon for about 5 hours. Among the catch of good size calicos and sheephead at Bajo El Morro and La Baliza (southern region of Cedros) we got a 21 kg (44 lb) Yellowtail and some calicos on the kelp beds.fficeffice" />
Saturday was even better with a 66 lb grouper and 3 yellowtails between 11 and 13 kg (24 and 30 lb). Plus some more calicos, barracudas, white fish and sheephead.
Sunday, we went to Bajo San Agustin, because of reports of abundant yellowtail. We found out they were true!. Dozens were swimming by our pangas and splashing in every direction. One of our pangas got 18 Yellowtail and the other got 13 ranging between 8 and 10 kg (18 and 25 lb). Same afternoon we relax at the kelp beds and got big calicos.

Fishing was done with bottom jigs, scampy and rapalas, as well as dead bait of anchovies and sardines....which seemed to work the same.

OUR TOTAL FOR THIS TRIP WAS: 36 yellowtail 1 big grouper, 25 calicos, 10 sheephead, 6 barracudas, and some other. Catch and release was for more than 6 yellowtail, many smaller calicos, barracudas, and some sheepheads. The panga drivers insisted in keeping most of the fish and took home the fish we didn’t release.

Weather was sunny with few clouds in the morning, almost no wind, and water so clear you could see the fish biting your jigs and scampy at 40 ft in the kelp beds. Water temperature around 21C and visibility was more than 40 ft.

The fly-in trips we offer are convenient, stay is comfortable, price is right, and fishing is excelent this time of the year. We have openings for August and September, but room is very limited and need as much time in advance as possible. Custom trips are available if you need other dates or want to go with less than 4 friends . www.cedrosoutdooradventures.com Ask for Jose at 1 619 793 5419
