| Muertos 5/19-5/28
Got back from Muertos this week. A bit windy down there for our stay. Three nights of 30+ MPH wind during the nights kept us on our toes. The fishing is in between seasons right now as the yellowtail have moved north and the dorado and wahoo are not in the waters right now. Probably did not help with the two seiners working the Ceralvo area the entire time we were there. Mexico is going to have to make a choice in the near future: More commercial fish vs. more sport fishing. Overall, the fishing has dropped off considerably over the last decade.
We dove Las Reinas, the pinnacle a few miles south, south end of Ceralvo and of course, Punto Perico.
We managed to shoot a few cabrilla and pargo. I passed on quite a few pargo, but my friends from Cabo shot a few. The one bright move I made this trip was to bring along a dive tank in case my anchor got hung up in the rocks. I shot a decent cabrilla that holed up in 57 feet of water. Took the tank out and untangled him in about 5 minutes. Something I would have never been able to do without a tank.
What made the trip even more enjoyable was the use of our laptops. Every place we stopped has wireless internet access. Even the Giggling Marlin in the Bay.
For a hotel recommendation in Guerro Negro, Mlarramo (sp?) was a pleasant surprise. Very old style baja.
No problems with the drive. 20 minute wait at the border.
