The Morro Redondo area near the southeast corner is all good. Look for 'tails (unusually big here for some reason) just outside the kelp in 40 to 80 feet, as well as on a bunch of high spots between Redondo and Isla Natividad. Only honest 50-lb. yellows I've ever seen firsthand came from right outside the Redondo kelp on a Q-105 skiff trip. Two of them on surface iron within about 15 minutes (neither one mine). The whole area around Chester Rocks near Punta Eugenia is often really good too.
If you're into calicos, the kelp and boilers around Redondo and Chester Rocks are about as good as it gets. I don't think Natividad is as productive for either bass or 'tails. Don't know anything about the offshore fishing in the area.
Pic showing the Qualifier was taken at the go-to Yellowtail spot on the kelp line, looking roughly northwest. The buildings are the salt-loading operation. Remember that little conical hill. The boilers at the base of the low bluff at left are killer. The other pic was taken at one of the outside highspots. Some of them come up to like 20 or 25 feet. Some big bass on those.

Thanks for the info guys. It was looking like a little warmer water was moving up or maybe I am just dreaming because I committed to taking a few friends. I will post a report when I get back(20th or 21st).
Take care

That Q-105 trip with all the big 'tails was in early June. Not sure if that was typical of that time of year, but my impression is that it was. The captain was thinking about continuing on down to San Pablo, but heard from another boat that it was cold and dirty. So maybe Cedros does warm up faster than the coast south of Tortugas. I'm sure someone around knows a lot more about this than I do.

Seems like everything south of Tortugas doesn't start until September, but north of Totugas starts in June. I wouldn't bother sfishing south of Tortugas until September, but we are going to Cedros in June.
I'd take one quality Yellowtail 30#+ over a bunch of rats any day.

You should have a great trip. Been tracking the SST's for the last few weeks and water is warming up. Have been to Cedros late May early June quite a few times and always had a good number of yellows around although out primary target (skiff trips) has always been Calicos. I am heading down to Cedros/Benitos right after you get back on my boat. 8 day trip with a stop at Turtle Bay to refuel before heading back up. Shoot me a PM if you want to talk as I can give you the heads up. Please report on your trip upon your return as first hand into will be appreciated.
Bottom line is that you are gonna have a great time and don't forget there are some nice WSB and Halibut in the area as well. Caught a 58lb WSB a couple years ago at Cedros and a ton of 30 - 50lb Yellowtail every time I have done the trip.
I will PM you my number.

I am heading down on the Vagabond on the 16th for a 5 day trip and Cedros is the spot we are heading to. I have not heard any reports lately but every time I have been there so has the Yellowtail.

Heading down to Cedros on my boat for a week down from Ensenada, Thank god for $2 diesel. Can't wait!! Only concern is the ride home, need some love and good weather. Got the shit kicked out of us coming up the line a few years back from Mag Bay. Have fun on your trip, let us know how it went?
