13 dead, five injured as rival gangs stage gun battle

TIJUANA – In one of the deadliest confrontations Tijuana has seen in recent years, 13 are dead and five are injured following a gun battle early Saturday between rival gangs linked to organized crime. Eight suspects were in custody, including the five injured.
The incident comes amid a spike in violence across Mexico's northern border as Mexican law enforcement officials battle criminal groups vying for control of lucrative drug smuggling routes to the United States.
Advertisement“We are evidently facing one of the most dangerous, most terrible events that we have lived through in recent months,” Rommel Moreno Manjarrez, Baja California's attorney general, said during a news conference Saturday. “We are talking about highly dangerous criminal groups.”
The shootout took place on a major thoroughfare in eastern Tijuana, Bulevar Insurgentes, when gunmen ambushed a group of men in parked cars. Authorities who responded to the 1:40 a.m. call found seven victims inside and near late-model vehicles that were parked on a frontage road that runs parallel to Insurgentes.
Three more victims were found at hospitals around the city, after apparently seeking treatment, while another was found in the back of a pickup truck a few miles away from where the incident occurred. Two more were killed in a confrontation across town with members of the Baja California State Preventive Police force in a shootout at a clinic where the suspects had sought treatment.
Investigators have seized 21 vehicles believed linked to the event, as well as 54 weapons. They counted 1,500 spent cartridges at the various crime scenes.

And honestly, I'm not trying to flame the whole here/there theme, but the reality is just that.....reality, but it would never stop me from driving in or going to Chicago.

TJ is bad guys killing bad guys-good ridance. But they have 5 more wounded in the hospital under military guard that have a story and are making a few people nervous. I laughed to heare that the local TJ cops are laying low after the incident as they feel vulnerable to personal attacks after an incident like this.
Another group of 5 grabbed the assistant DA yesterday in SLP and left him on the road in the morning with a little extra lead to the head.
Then the military took over the federal police station and dearmed almost 1000 cops.
Interesting times.

1500 spent rounds? 13 dead? Nice shootout. Its pretty obvious these groups are going to do what they damn well please. Law enforcement can't stop them. Judicial system doesn't mean anything to them when they are kidnapping and killing anyone who opposes them. Serious problems that have no answers. Just try and duck when you pass through TJ. What else can you do?
