| Puertecitos
Decided to spend a few days at the Enchanted Islands... Took off not-too-early on Thur and crossed the border around midday. Mostly uneventful until we were about 30 miles from Puertecitos. Looked out the mirror and saw major smoke coming from the rear left side of the trailer. Find a flat dirt road about 1/4 mile up the road and pull over to investigate. Find out that the rear left tire on the trailer is rubbing against the fender and causing the smoke show. Can't figure out how the tire got pushed back to cause the rub. After about ten minutes, find out the whole axle on the left side has shifted back a few inches! Crap. Looks like we sheared off the shackle bolt to the leaf springs and that left the U bolts holding but slipping back. Luck favors the prepared... Pulled out 2 new U Bolts and improvised a new shackle bolt, pulled out the jack and did the repair in about 2 hrs. Thank God. Finally parked in Puertecitos around 6:00 and headed to Isla Miramar to anchor for the night.
Fri started nice, temp around 80 and water temps in the high 60s. Water was cooler than normal for this time of year and very green off color. Spring hasn't really arrived yet. Fished Fri and the green cool water really had the fishing down. Managed a few Goldspotted Bass in the 4-5 lbs range and fished the outer reefs for a Gulf Grouper in the 75-80 lb class (CPR) and another in the 15 lb class (kept). Missed 2 Yellowtail bites. Spent the night in a quiet cove at Isla San Luis.
Sat we woke to winds that started bad and only got worse! 30 mph steady with gusts to twice that. Breaker swells to 8 ft, very short period and steep backs made the ride back from the islands alot slower and less than enjoyable than we planned. No fishing Sat. Wind blew everything and everyone off.
Tight lines,
- Adrian

That's a beautiful fish! What kind of boat did you take down? That's some nasty slop to have to come back in...

Thanks Andy... Thanks Fred. Definitely a slow-growing species, so have to leave the big mamas around for my kids to catch someday. I wish more people shared that view.
Thanks Gil. We took our 26' Skipjack Panacea down.

Adrian, I'm glad you got into some quality fish. The wind can be bitch there this time of year, as you know. Glad you made it back safely!
