| Avet Reel Color Question..
After reading all the glowing reviews of the Avet Hx.
I'm getting one but can't decide if I want one with color.
I'm an anal-retentive compulsive neurotic about scratches - so I'm thinking a scratch in a silver reel could be buffed out - But a blue reel (which is the one I want) a scratch would be permanent.
How durable are the colored finishes and can they be repaired?
Thanks
Chris

Chris | The finish that avet, acccurate and other reel companies use are reasonably durable.. Most of these reels are anodized... Silver is a good choice because the aluminum is darn near the same color as the coating.. So if the coating is damaged its difficult to notice it.... Any attempt to buff out a scratch would only decrease the thickness the coating and would not take out the scratch... If you are that anal retentive.. You could have the reel anodized again after you scratch it.. But single piece anodizing orders are big $$... So it could be repaired as long as its just the coating thats damaged.. If the scratch is deep enough and enters the aluminum you are stuck with it... Taking a reel and having it stripped and re-anodized is not cost effective....

Get silver if you are that anal retentive. I love the blue but it shows scratches pretty well.

The blue, black, purple, and red scratch pretty badly. Orange and gold are a little more subtle, so they hide it a little better, but silver is the king. I don't know about green,
pink, or the old "gunmetal" silver.

I would go with the black...while all others are anodized...black is powder coated. Mine have been through alot with very minimal scratches....

I believe that you can keep scratches and rub to a minimum by following a couple simple rules. Avoid leaving your rod leaning against the rail. When rod is not in use put it in the rack, or in your SKB box (reels turned inward on top of box), or in a deck trash can (crews love this). Also, get yourself some nice reel covers. My covers are cylinders and cover the entire reel including the handle. Keep covers on your reels in the rack. Space your rigs out accordingly. Big reel, small reel, big reel.

I have both silver and gold avets. Both hide the scratches pretty good.blue or black would be a bad choice(at least for you).

Easy fix, Buy one to look at, and then buy one to use.

Black magic marker for Black reels or blue for blue reels should work for you.
