spool play?

Just picked up a JX, and it seems to have an awful lot of side-to-side spool play at freespool- at least, when compared to other conventional reels I own. Is this typical?

If I adjust the drag so that there isn't freespool at the cast control position, I get the same massive amount of drag at strike (> 25 lbs) that was noted in the cast control thread...

Re: spool play?

Don't adjust the reel the loose freespool in the cast control system. Adjust so 25-33% of line rated strength when in strike. Side-to-side play is normal for a lever drag when in freespool. Also, DO NOT adjust knob unless in freespool. Oh ya, do a lot of reading on this site's past threads to learn more about setting up your reel properly. There is a lot of info...

Ive got the same problem. I compared it to th LX which I got with it, which is pretty much the same except for the cast control.
I'd say the JX moves a full 1/16" side to side while the LX has about .005"

Send it back to Avet. I had the same problem with a JX. Just got it yesterday from Cabbage Key. I sent them an e-mail today and this is what they had to say:

"Hi Keith
Thanks for the order
I just spoke to Harry at Avet. The side to side clearance on the JX shoulf
not exceed .004-.005 like your LX is.
He said to return it and they will take care of it, probably a small metal
burr on the shaft
Please send it back to Avet or if you are close by, you can bring it in and
they will fix it on the spot
Their address is

Avet reels
9687 Topange Canyon Rd
Chatsworth, Ca 91322
Ph 877 487 4476

If sending it
Enclose a note explaining the problem"

Hope this helps you out.
