July 13th, Bodega Bay Ca, slow day but the boys were able to get these two. Ian and Logan Stoner fishing with their Dad and Friend. Fishing in 300' of water Ian the younger of the two used the blue MXL on a Fenwick Pacific Stick and 20lbs test. His Dad hooked the fish and Ian did the rest, Logan used the Gold MXL on a 8'6" Lamiglass to land his fish. Ian's weighed @7lbs and Logans 13lbs. The bite had been fast and furious until Fri the 13th, we had plenty of attention but only 5 hooked, 2 dinks, 1 lossed at boat and the 2 landed. All in all not a bad first day of the year.

Friday July 13, 2007
My good Buddy Jim calls me on Wed. evening asking if I could make reservations for an overnighter for Friday fishing. I say no problem....Not...I called Seaforth, Islandia..All full. PL and FL...All full. I am getting discouraged at this point with only one to go. Call H&M....Paydirt. The Coral Sea was added and still had 8 spots. I book five and we are off. Thursday night we get loaded up and I give Conner and Ryan a good briefing on what to expect. Selecting bait, hooking bait, rail etiquette and most important fish fighting/landing.
The hot Albacore bite of the previous week had slowed a bit as we trolled and trolled for just a few fish. The boys were now getting discouraged as the day wore on and not one good opportunity for a bait fish was presented. Suddenly my buddy Brian spots a nice boil of fish working a bait ball in the distance. Brian runs up to the wheelhouse and gets Capt. Randy pointed in the right direction. Reversal of fortunes perhaps? Capt. swings by the huge bait ball and three trollers go off...Game on!
It has been a while since I ventured in to the world of open party charter boats...That being said "game on" here, meant a stumblin, bumblin cluster of lines and people. I was not liking the scene building before my eyes. As yards of tangled lines began to appear on the stern I decide to make a move to get these boys on a fish. I told Ryan to stow his gear and follow me. I waited until the troll fish and the insuing cluster got to gaff and launched a butt hooked dean beyond the cluster. Immediate bite..I let her run and set the hook and hand it over to Ryan. Repeat the process for Conner and the boys are on.
One thing I told the boys when I was explaining how things works was "you will forget everything I told you on your first fish". True to form boys had a heck of a time. It took Ryan over 20 minutes to get his fsh on the deck. He was worked. The picture says it all. He couldn't hold the fish up long enough for a good pic. Conner worked on his fish for another 10 minutes but lost it at color. Poor fluoro connection by me or poor technique by Conner we will never know.
One thing is certain. Despite a small cramped boat, many "GREEN FACED" passengers, lots of trolling and sore arms...Pelagic hunters were born.
Conners face says it all. |

Took the wife out for her first fishing trip cause she wanted to see what all of the hype was about. I showed her some footage of some Albis that I caught with My Buddy John (Septic Death) on 4th of July, so she says I want to go try that. So I took her.
We got on our way around 5:00am out of MB picked up some mixed bait and we were going to the 9 mile bank first , made a few stops for nada. Im thinking to myself I hope we get into some fish or she might be a little upset, so I set a heading for the 371 and after 45min or so on the troll we got one went 22 lbs. now the pressure is off .Make our way up around the 230 and pick up another one and it goes 23lbs sweeeet!
Trolled for a few more hour for nada so I turn the boat towards MB and we get about 2 mile south of the 302 and zinggggggggg, another hook up for the bride. This one went 27 lbs on the scale. She caught this 27lbs Albi on the Avet EX Pro 40/2. She caught fish on 2 other reel and she didnt like them. Now I have to buy another Avet cause she just took over that rod and reel.
So now im a hero and I have a new fishing buddy. Water was alittle lumpy but not too bad.
Great day out with the wife and had a blast.
Here are some pics.

Logan, at it again one week later 7/20/07. Fishing with his Dad, Brother and a friend. Fishing in Bogega Bay Salmon bite was very stratchy so they switched to Rockfish. They got a mixed bag of rockfish but then Logan got this 15lbs Ling. He was using a MXL on Pacific Stick Fenwick. The seas were nice they were catching rock fish and suntans in their 18' North River.

28# Albie, one of two caught at the 302 out of San Diego Ca on 7/23/07.
Reel Avet SX spooled with 50# spectra and a 4 Foot top shot of Ande 10#. Rod was a Sabre 196-7. #2 Mustad hook with a 6" sardine. Drag set at 5# strike. Initial run was 100yds. Made 2 more runs of over 100 yds and then it was up and down. Drag was set at 5# and worked butter smooth.

I'd have to say give it to Carol, in the pink. Not because of the boobie's, I know her, the picture doesn't do her justice, but because the picture represents SO much more..
The boats been hitting the water for 2 years, its her first time on it, let alone fishing from it, its her first fish, it's turned another woman onto fishing, and well, now I can go fishing more cause Dean can go fishing more, just all kinds of great side effects of that Avet and that day (she caught more than 1 fish, 3 different ones on 3 different reels and that she enjoyed that Avet so much she claimed it her's now.. Not to mention the balls it must have taken to post a bikini of YOUR REAL wife on THIS site... You don't see that too often.. |

The lady in pink is hot, I'll give her that (and her husband is a lucky man on many accounts), but I can't stop laughing at this one.
Good pic, but the quote is 'classic'. For what its worth (which ain't much) my vote goes here. Quote:

If the guy who owns a nice boat like that, has his own tile company and bought his wife boobies like that he can afford to buy another Avet for his wife. Quote:

How about putting up a report before submitting pics just to try to win free garb? That might get you more votes.
