Rod suggestions for SX

The graftech I have my SX on now is too heavy. I'm fishing 20# and looking for suggestions. Not sure if I will just go with a lighter Graftech or not. I'm considering the Seeker Inshore 808 too.

Whatchu guys usin'?

Re: Rod suggestions for SX

Do you like the action on the Graftech? If you do, try pulling on a Graftech in a different line class, or even a Californian Calico Special. I'd put some of the Loomis rods on this end of the fast action spectrum as well. Going slightly parabolic you can look at GUSAs and Calstars, both feel great to me as I tend to mod-fast/fast action tips. Best thing I can think of is taking suggestions here and actually pulling on some rods in a tackle store that will let you.

Re: Rod suggestions for SX

I own a couple Calstars in heavier line classes too and really love them. I have NO experience with Loomis or GUSA rods. I do plan to go pull on a few after I collect some input. Thanks for the responses guys....keep um comin'.

I have a Seeker 858 Inshore Series II that I love. Great rods. I also have a Loomis Buccara that is a pretty killer stick. You are welcome to try them both. I also fish a Shimano Calcutta 8 footer; the first edition thats not made any longer.

You cannot fish with that.

Can't gripe about the price point on those Seeker Inshores either. Great value IMO.

Thanks for the offer Kev. You always offer to let me play with you rod.....makes me uncomfortable.

Re: Rod suggestions for SX

I like my GIS80M (8', rated 12-20, I think the newer ones are now labeled 15-25) for 20#. It is a little stiff for 20# bait but I've been using it as my goto 20# stick for the past year or so and I like it. I've caught Yellowtail, Yellow Fin Tuna, Dorado and skippies on it with 20#. The GIS80L has an action very similar to an 800XL only with more back... maybe it's like an 800XLH. I use it as my 15# plastics rod while I use the 800XL (with alwr) for 15# bait. You might want to check out the 80L if the 80M is too stiff for you.
