Have an mxj that stated acting weird so I tore it apart and found the pinion bearing was shot, the shield on it was crushed in making it very rough
I am not sure how this happened and would like to know how to prevent it.

and is the best way to get a replacement to call avet ?

Don't touch the drag preset while the reel is gear. Only adjust that knob while in freespool. Tightening down on the drag preset with the drag engaged will crush that shield. Yes, contacting Avet directly is the quickest way to get your part. Their customer service people will get it out to you right away. If you call them early enough in the day they will normally ship same day as long as they have the part in stock, and they usually do.
