Name: Nat Gunn
Boat: Independence
Location: Cedros
Reel: Avet HX5/2 (Hoo X)
Rod: Factory Wrapped Calstar 700 H
Line: 65 lb spectra topped with 50 lb clear Izor two foot top of 50 lb Seaguar florocarbon
Iron: Tady 4/0 scrambled egg
Date: May 16 2007

Report: Caught close to a Mexican Limit of yellow tail using my new HX5/2 using iron with the exception of one which was caught on bait using an Avet EX 4/02. Great early season 6 day yellow tail trip on the Independence. I love this reel. Cast's beautifully, imparts great action to the iron without having to crank hard. Low gear brings them to the boat and out of the rocks very nicely. Looking forward to trying the reel on different species later this year.

Steve Springer
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Avet 30 w/ Cal Star
5/18/07

Fished PV on Friday 5/18 with Alonso Osuna on the Marla II. Went offshore looking for tunas after 9 hours with no luck Alonso said lets go get some Rooster & Amberjack. Ran inside about 15 miles and started trolling chilie peppers in the 5-8 lbs range. When all hell broke loose with wide open Amberjack and Rooster with a few Pargo mixed in. Never got an actual weight , but Alonso estimated at 60 kilo's. He added it's the largest Jack he's seen in over 3 years.

DAte - May 25, 2007
Name- Steve Gonzalez
Reel - Avet mxl
Rod - Rainshadow 15-30 custom
Line- 30lb Berkley Big Game
Location - Shenango River PA
Bait - Ugly 5inch floating Rapala. Floro Green,Orange and Yellow
Fish - 15.5 Striped /White Bass= WIPER
Went out on a boat with my buddie Dave. We never catch any thing here only hear stories. I wanted to see how this rod feels before I head out to Cali to do some Tuna fishing. Put out this Rapala with a 1/2 ounce egg sinker ,put the clicker on and put the boat in gear. Just as we were getting back into our seats the rod went BENDO. The reel was screaming and it looked like it was stuck on a log. Took the boat out of gear, grabbed the rod, the line started to head port and kind of pulling the boat. It took 15 min to get him but by the time we got him to the side of the boat we had 6 boats watching us. No one had seen a Striper around here in a long time. People would not stop asking about my reel. Could have sold 5 or 6 if I had them. The reel was relentless and smooth. Thanks Avet.

Boat: Genelie
Location: Middle grounds
Reel: Avet JX6:01
line: 25lbs trilene, 4 feet of florocarbon leader
Date: 5-26-07

After looking for paddies first half of the day for no love, headed towards the rock pile, and saw the middle grounds packed with boats. We stopped too play for awhile, for nada, as we started to re-locate we left the fly lines out. we could not of moved more than 50 feet or so..When BAMMM my rod starts screeeeeeeming. Up comes a 21+ lbs Yellow. tucked her away..started again, maybe a hundred yards..Bamm again, for a 19+ lbs yellow. 2 hours later after drift fishing we started to relocte, leaving the fly line out, and just after getting under way, Bamm again, for a 17+ lbs yellow. I think because I was using 4 feet of florocarbon leader, was the secret.

Gear: Avet JX, with 25# Izor XXX - Avet JX 6/3 with 50# Spectra, 40# Yo-Zuri Hybrid topshot - Owner 2/0 flyliner and gorilla hooks.
Date: May 28, 2007

Memorial Day 2-day trip on the Ultra.

The passengers: 7 men, and one lady!

I went 2 for 4 on yellowtail early in the bite, using my single speed JX, with 25 pound line.

I switched up to my JX 6/3, spooled with 50 pound spectra and a 40# Yo-Zuri Hybrid top shot. Fishing with live squid, 1/4 ounce slider and 2/0 Owner hooks, I went 8 for 10 over the next couple of hours. After two of the fish came up with a 2/0 Owner Flyliner hook nearly straightened, I switched to 2/0 Owner Gorilla hooks.

We ended the day with 41 yellowtail in the 15-25# range, for the 8 anglers.

10 of those 41 yellowtail were caught by me... my catch is in the second picture. The next highest count for one of the guys was 6 fish.
