Taking a different tack...

Since there has been some negative reaction to Avet's customer service/support I thought that I would chime in on my experiences...

I bought one of the first LX's and set it up with 30# P-Line CXX and took it out paddy hopping. I hooked a nice Yellowtail on it and couldn't stop the bastard from going to the paddy. I re-set the drags and the same thing happened. Back in the day you used to have to call in for support and I did after that trip. Within a week I received some parts and a hand drawn diagram of how to fix the reel. I had never cracked a reel so I called when I had some issues and one of the owners walked me through the process. I believe that PhotoG owns that reel now and it has had zero problems since.

I went to the East Cape with 4 EX4/0W 2-speeds and one of the deckhands dropped one on the deck. The clicker exploded and when I sent it in after the trip it came back with a new side plate (as they had re-designed it) and a new clicker free of charge.

After 2 years with the EX 4/0's I pulled the spectra off and discovered that the spools had some corrosion spots on them. I sent Avet a message saying that I had maintained them per their instructions and that this was the result. They asked me to send them in and I did. A few days later I received all 4 reels back with new spools and they changed their maintenance procedures. This was all free of charge.

All in all I have had good experiences with the company. I will continue to buy their products and have them service them when it is warranted.

Mark

Re: Taking a different tack...

Thanks seems comforting. I own an Avet and haven't yet had to call them or send my reel to them for anything and hopefully wont have to for a while (knocks on wood)

I will also add to the postive feedback about Avet . I have had a little problem with a scratch drag clicker and gave them a call and recieved the new clicker 3 days later. They have always had A+++ customer service whenever I have called them asking questions .

Re: Taking a different tack...

I'll bite....
The first story is that I bought a JX, second hand through someone on this board. The reel was in good shape externally but didn't have that typical Avet spool rotation, something was up with the bearings or ??. I figured "what the hell, I got a bunch of 'em so I won't miss this one" and dropped it in a box with a note to Avet explaining what I was experiencing and explained that I had just purchased it used and told them that when they did whatever they felt it needed to make it new again to call me and I would give them my credit card # to cover parts, labor, and shipping. I called them less than a week later to make sure they received it and it was ready to be shipped out after a rebuild.....no charge! I had another LX that I had bought used and just discovered the clicker wasn't right so I mentioned that I would like to buy a couple clicker assemblies and they just threw them in the box...no charge. I finally got even and was able to spend some money by buying 3 T-shirts for $12 each. They are the best T's I have ever had and still fit like the day I bought them.

Re: Taking a different tack...

I spoke to Eliza and Danny just a little while ago on the phone. Harry and Sarkis are in Panama fishing!
I know there has been a lot of negativity about Danny on this board, but he is new. He is also working for 3 work-a-haulic owners who probably do not tell him much and are going around doing everything hands-on a million miles an hour. He was a good guy and I am confident in him for a couple 50 sized handles I got to upgrade Pro 30's and also my T-Rx 30 that needs a new cam I think. He said they were very busy.
They are just having the same problems that any family-run business that experiences great success runs into when their business gets so big and they have not yet put in the people and procedures to deal with it. McKee Craft is the same way. A great boat company, but every now and then you hear of a very bad customer service story that the president/owner fixed as soon as he knew about it, which unfortunately might be a month or two later.... I still regard Avet as the best reel for the money, and I still regard their quality and customer service as top notch.

Its important that companies have their priorities straight. Ive got a couple Avet shirts. They dont fit me as good as the first time anymore, but then Ive gained about 10 lbs since I got those.

that's 'cause you have more time to eat more halfday cheese burgers after your Avets fail you for the day Jason
