Congrats! Straight spectra w/ no top-shot? I see why you had to back-off the drag a little.......can easily bust a broom stick!

Am I too late?
Here is HP Yamashiro, eighty-three years old and still pulling hard. HP was on the recent eight day trip aboard the Shogun this month, and proceeded to outfish the younger crowd of half his age. While these pictures don't show his biggest fish, I do believe they are the best showing the reel and the rocks. His tackle by the way is an Avet JX 6/3 backed with 65 pound Power Pro spectra and a short top shot of 40 pound Izorline, on a Cal-Star 665 rod. If I remember correctly he was using cheap hooks. Mustad 94150 at about $.05 apiece.
Good going HP.
Even though I took the pictures I am placeing this entry for HP.

Nothing against a great catch, and a monster fish or the reel that landed it. But those Cubera pictures suck. For one thing the reel is only in two of the five pictures, the fish is in a sled on a scale, or half hidden on the deck. Aren't good fishing pictures suppose incorperate some sceanery, the fish, angler and whatever is center of topic i.e. the Avet reel.
Just my opinion.

Just my opinion. | Ditto that........and the fact that he said the east coast was the "right" coast makes it that much more terrible..... .

So are you all saying you don't want east coast guys giving Avet increased market among our communities? We break records with Avets and that fact is in many fishing publications and other publications not to mention in our local fishing discussions.
Let's put this cubera thing in perspective. It would be a world record for 130# class tackle if the rod was 1/2" longer from the center of the reel, and it still is our state record and it beats the Florida all tackle record where people regularly fish for the things. An Avet breaking records that were held by electric reels mounted to steel pipes, etc.... And you are downplaying it because they were more interested in fishing than breaking records or winning contests. Classy. Bob was one of the first in my area to go out on the limb and start fishing Avets almost exclusively. He owns 10 himself when hardly none are to be found in our local shops. They're starting to be available locally now for people to see though.
In all candor, that's an awesome pic of the tuna and the pix of Amy with various Avets are also quite capable of selling many reels . Too bad all these were in the same month.

i am sending in all the paper work for 130lb class record,on a swivel tip rod you count the tip extended according to the IGFA...
its all about fishing,we never even looked at breaking any records and like phin said the first time 6 months ago i saw an avet,i knew i would have my entire spread with them....
and if this contest comes down to me and the gentleman with the tuna, please let him have it,i just hope i can still fish when i am his age..that is just plain cool... |
