new Avet LX6/3 Reel

I bought a new Avet6/3 reel at the hall show. What pound spectra should I use on it? The reel will be used for various types of fishing and I figutre I can changed the topshots out to fit the fishing and conditions. If I use 80 spectra, will the reel hold enough pluss the top shot, or should I use 65 spectra? I figure that the top shots will be 40-50-60 lb.I am open for your comments and recommendations.

Re: new Avet LX6/3 Reel

I'd go 80lb hollow for abrasion and to cut down on capacity a bit.

Re: new Avet LX6/3 Reel

Depends on how much line you want on it. It will hold 500 yards of 65# JB with room for a 50+ yard topshot of 40#...should be able to catch a Marlin with it...or decent sized Tuna.

Re: new Avet LX6/3 Reel

Reel is ideal for 40lb mono line and maxed out at 50lb. 65 hollow spectra is more than enough, no need for 80lb.

Re: new Avet LX6/3 Reel

If you plan to fish the reel with 40# I too suggest you go with about 400 yards of 65# spectra. That way you get a long top shot to play tangle mania on a sport boat. Last year a few guys were very upset when we fished Alijos on anchor. A tangle in mono is cheap; one in spectra is pricey. They cut them both!
