My father likes to keep that reel in the water with a rigged ballyhoo while on drift we just cant afford "yet" to replace all our gear! I was very proud of the way that little avet held up though...We were almost spooled at one point he was taking full drag at freespool like a leasurly swim it was awesome on the trevala rod, it stayed smooth as silk without a slighest hicckup in the drag and there were times it was burning off...If you notice the funny marks on the kings head it was where the Jerry brown had cut into his head! I know my cousin who was on the boat as well will be order his soon after seeing that fight!

Re: March Avet Contest '07

This fish was caught on March 10, 2007 in Puerto Vallarta on the boat Chappy One. Chappy Charters is the name of the company. The boat is a 2003 Luhrs 36 open. My wife and I went out with Dennis and his son from Philly. The dorado was caught on a Melton tackle wrapped 7 foot Shimano rod, along with an Avet SX. The line used was 20 pound P-line CXX using a Gamakatsu live bait ringed hook. The bait looked to be similar to a spanish mackeral as it had big eyes.

While fishing north of PV, we came to the spot with dorado everywhere. The dorado was hooked within seconds and landed about 15-20 minutes later. As usual the reel worked flawlessly. Capt. Torrey looked at me funny as I was using such a small reel with light line. Much to everyone's surprise on the boat, I never lost a fish. Capt. Torrey put the fish at an easy 25-30 pounds.

I'm posting this photo on behalf of Maruhashi-san, because of his limited English. I thought you guys would like to see some fish from the other parts of the world. What is neat is that Avet's are extremely hard to come by in Japan (home turf to Shimano/Diawa) but that could hopefully change is very near future.

Eizo Maruhashi (March 12)

Reel: Avet JX 6/3 2-Speed (BLUE)

Fishing off the coast of Japan

ISO Fishing is a type of surf fishing that is done off of the rocky cliff coast line in Japan. This type of fishing is actually pretty dangerous depending on the location because the fisherman can actually be fishing from the side of a cliff, 20-50 feet above the waterline. Every year fisherman die from this type of fishing.

The rods used for ISO fishing are called Kurodai rods.
