stupid question abou magging a avet

Magnets and aluminum?? does that sound right? what effect does it have on an alum. spool and is it just friction? Aren't the spools aluminum also?
FLAME AWAY and sorry if this is a stupid question, I just bought my first 2 mxj's in gold.

Here is a short explaination "A spinning spool, with a conducting metal in close proximity to fixed magnets, will create a disturbance in the magnetic field(s) of the fixed magnets, and this disturbance is called an "Eddy Current". It won't work with graphite or plastic spools - only spools that can conduct electricity. If you have a plastic or graphite spool in your reel, you can add a disc of aluminum or copper on the end nearest the magnet(s) and it will work. "

I have two avets that I use for surf fishing only. One lx and one jx,they are both magged. I am able to cast 350' plus from the beach with a 12' rod 30# breakaway,25' of 80# shock mono,12/0 circle hook,250#swivel, 8oz. piramid and heavy giant squid bait. No backlash, you can complete the cast with both hands on the butt below the reel,you must thumb at impact to stop overun. The mags are adjustable for wind and change of sinker and bait Wgt. A reasonably handy person with hand tools can mag. a reel for under $5.00 in about 30 Mins. Search Lenzs law, Leevalley.com, magging avet reels. Most of the magged reels are on the east coast.I also use a soft or Florida cam in my reels,from Avet. If you are having trouble adjusting the drag,check the female cam in the drag lever,it must seat level in its pocket and will come from avet tipped it will give you fits when adjusting drag tension if not seated, seat it with a carriage bolt head tap lightly.
