TRX drag curves too much ?

If I ever wanted to fish a TRX 30 at 30# of drag instead of up around 60 and 70 like it's capable of, would it work well or not have a good curve from free spool to full at this lower setting?

Here off the Carolina coast, the majority of my fishing would not always work well with heavy swivels and hooks that would hold up to the high drag- and the 40 pound dolphin and wahoo would have the hooks torn out, etc. But if I wanted the heavy drag occasionally, the reel's drag would be fully utilized- like for a big yellowfin or billfish.

Also, I feel like if the curve is still good around 30 or 40 pounds with the TRX 30, then using it at this lower setting will let the quad drags last for a loooooooooooooooong time. I like the idea of a quad drag, but til now, have only used the EX's and smaller, so I don't know what the quad drags will and won't do.

What do any of you guys who have used one think about using them at lower settings like between 20 and 40 pounds at strike with 80-100# test line?

Am I hoping for too much (or too little)?

IMHO, go with a 50 SDS or a straight Pro 30. They'll both pull 40+ drag. Who the hell is going to fish with 70#'s unless you're in a chair?

YEP. Add to that the fact the TREX's have very wide right sides due to the addition stuff in there. Take a look at the photo's or a reel in person. That will just add to the torque on your left wrist while cranking with heavy drag.

Re: TRX drag curves too much ?

Problem is that nobody stocks Avets here. I have never even seen a TRX in person.
They are just catching on here in the Carolinas mainly through word of mouth and using other people's reels. I found out about them after seeing them on somebody's boat 2 years ago. Many have now found out after fishing with me.
Now more and more people ask me about every Avet made because they are interested after seeing them being used on TV shows for "extreme fishing."
Even less people even know about Accurates here......
It is hard to get people to try anything new when you tell them your 4/0 sized reel will do the same thing as their 80W Penn or Tiagra.
I love using my Avet SX's to catch 30# fish to make people around here ask, "what the hell kinda reel is that?"

I guess after what has been said about the TRX's, I will stick to the Pro 30's and narrow 50's.
