While listening to Let's Talk Hookup Saturday morning, the question was asked what they knew about Avet, how long they had been out, and where they were made.
Pete Grey answered that he'd "never heard of them". WHAT??? With all the articles in WON, the ads in fishing magazines, the messages on this board and other boards, and the Avet booth at the Hall show, is it really possible that Pete has never heard of them?
I understand that Let's Talk Hookup is sponsored by Shimano, Calstar, and others. I believe they have a responsibility to those sponsors to promote their product, but to deny another products existence when its been getting a lot of press and praise; give me a break. I'm sorry Pete but I have to question your credibility.

I guess thats why your here. You want it straight, with no Bullshit. Ask your questions here. If someone starts flying the Bullshit Flag, they get called on it. Straight out............Like Anglers Choice. They cant hide behind the "political correctness" that has somehow invaded just about everything we do....Except Fishing.

Name: Jeff Vessel: Boat Ho Location: Westminster, CA Job:Sales | Let's Talk Hookup Response
UPDATE: I received this email response from Pete Grey this morning.
"Jeff- If you were listening carefully, what I said was I do not know anything about Avet, because I do not. If you were also listening, you should have noted that we asked all of our guests if they know about it, which they did not. You should also know that the guy asked me before the show if it was ok to ask a question of the guests about Avet- and my answer was of course!
We often talk about other products on the show, Cal Sheets about Penn, Hightowers about Diawa, Newell, etc. Ken about Tiburon. It is an open forum, and I invite you to call in and discuss any product you want to. If you are a big fan of Avet, then call in and fill us in when a question like that comes up. I am not going to talk about something I do not know anything about. I of course know Avet makes reels- beyond that- I know nothing more. It is not my “duty” to know everything about every product available. It is not possible. That “duty” falls on the representatives of the products. I do know about Shimano and Cal Star because I believe in the products and I use them. We are fortunate that we could do business with any rod and reel manufacturer in the industry because of the popularity of Let’s Talk Hook-up. We choose what I and many others feel are the best products- and I do know about those because I use them. These product lines fill my needs for fishing, and I do not need to go beyond that. I am going to use what I believe in- not just because they are sponsors.
You must be somehow connected with Avet, so if you would like to have one of their representatives contact me, I would be happy to put them on the program.
Thanks for listening
Pete Gray"
I plan on contacting Avet and having them contact Pete. My hope in this crusade was that the little guy without the big ad budget could be represented. If Avet goes on Let's Talk Hookup then this has been accomplished.

Is'nt it nice to have someone like Pete Gray respond to you like you are a blithering moron? As if a person in his position does'nt "what I said was I do not know anything about Avet, because I do not. " know ANYTHING about Avet. How about "I have seen their products, but as yet have not had the chance to use them in the field" i mean, IF your listening Jeff What is with that guy. A LITTLE deffensive eh! Especially considering he makes his living trying to sell stuff (through his advertisers and sponsors) to in-attentive people like Jeff and I |

Avet has been discussed may times on Rod & Reel Radio XTRA Sports 690 & 1150 am - Sunday NIGHTS 7 - 9.
All of the staff of RRR (including myself) was at an Avet openhouse recently to help demonstrate these new reels. Stan Vanderburg recently announced Avets new T-Rex reel that delivers over 100 pounds of drag and still free spools.
"Big Tuna Bill" recently talked about Bloodydecks.com forums on a recent show.
RRR discusses all products equally as both Bill and Stan have been fishing for many years and have a lot of knowledge to impart.
RRR will be at the Hall Del Mar show with a flip & pitch tournament and will be giving away: packages of Western Plastics, Fishin' Musician, Assault, AA, Optima baits and new St. Croix, GUSA and Seeker rods along with a trip to the East Cape for the winners.
I'll be at the Del Mar show in the Rod & Reel Radio booth. Stop by & say hi.
Pete's a good guy, just a LITTLE sensitive.

They've sent me a few of their new catalogues with a bunch of new reels in it, but it's still not up on their site. They aren't gonna sell too many of those new $900 reels if they don't have them on the web.

How can Pete Gray say "If you were listening carefully".
Pete if you would speak in an intelligible manner I wouldn't have to "listening carefully".
If I were on the radio I would want to make sure I spoke clearly so everyone could comprehend what I was saying, not try to sound unintelligible when responding to a fellow fisherman. This guy just lost some point's in my book.
Sounds like he wants to play word games with you.

The whole thing is FISHY. So it's no wonder Let's Talk Hookup no longer has audio archives of shows. Pete wouldn't want to make a liar out of himself would he?

I heard the show that day, all he said was " I don't know anything about them". He didn't say anything bad about Avet so what is the problem ?
Like you said they have sponsors, if it wasn't for Shimano, Calstar and others there wouldn't be a show.
Now on the other hand it does crack me up when some kid calls and asks what he should buy for a particular trip and he's told a Trinidad/Calstar combo, the kids dad must love that.
It's a great show but obviously it has sponsors that keep it going.
