Re: What line? EX 4/02

Here we're used to going up on size or at lease the same lb test on the mono leader. Any reason for putting a smaller size and run the risk of braking off. Seems like a short topshot of a lesser test would kind of mute the point of going with a high end higher lb spectra. Just my thoughts. I realize that either way, 60 and 80 lb should be plenty for the fishing your going to do with this reel.

Re: What line? EX 4/02

Hopefully my last question. We fish a lot with short flouacarbon or steel leaders tied using a swivel right to the spectra. I know the advantage of hollow spectra and really don’t need it for splicing. My question is, is the hollow better to the non? Opinions?

Re: What line? EX 4/02

I like hollow for the connection. As to lb test, I set the drag based on the spectra, not the leader or topshot. Especially due to the fact my topshots are closer to leaders than topshots. I'll run 80 spectra to 100lb topper for abrasion or knot insurance. Again, I fish the spectra, not the mono/flouro.

Re: What line? EX 4/02

I have 65lb solid on one of my 4/0 and 60 hollow on the other. I use the reels primarly for pacific halibut in deep water and for what I do with these reels solid would work just as well as hollow.

Re: What line? EX 4/02

Most run lighter mono than spectra. If the line breaks, you want the cheap mono to break, not the expensive spectra.
