casting the small sx5:1

i have an avet sx5:1 its the real small on. amounst the great free-spool comes great back lashes when casting plastics for bass.

I have tried to firm up the "bait" position but then the drag at the strike is just too tight. and if i adjust the drag to be correct at the strike position the "bait" position is just like free spool.

anyone have any pointers? havent gotten anything except backlashes on it. and I only fish plastics.

thanks

steve

Re: casting the small sx5:1

You could try "Mag-ing" it. There is a post on here about adding magnets to your reel to make casting easier...

Re: casting the small sx5:1

Magging a reel is a waste of a reel in my opinion. Keep practicing and soon you will get better.

No one is saying that you don't know how to cast. It just takes a lot of practice just like when you first started because the free spool is so great.

Re: casting the small sx5:1

I agree with Kelp King. If you are going to mag it you might as well trade it for a reel with less performance. This reel can cast like a madman, it just takes some getting used to. Would you mag a newell? I think not. It just takes a little more practice because the spool wieght.

Yep, just spend time with the reel. If you never backlash, you are not trying hard enough.

Re: casting the small sx5:1

More time on it or more SLIME on it?

Remember, lube the line prior to casting!

specially in SSBELL's situation!

newells have cast control on side of the reel, so once its dialed in its good to go, like the shimanos.

well i'll keep at it. thanks glad to know it happens to everyone with these reels.
