Early Avet LX drag upgrade?

I bought a used Avet LX 4.6 and it only gets around 15lbs max drag or I loose freespool.Can I upgrade this reel to get the 20# of the newer upgraded LX reels?Does Avet have a kit?Thanks Dale

Pull it apart and change the bellvilles. If they are ()(), change them to, (()). If they are ()()(), change them to (())().

Do I have that right Alan? If I remember right, ((())) was too steap a ramp into full.

What is the drag at strike? 15lbs is good for 60lb but I hear you, that's at full.

Per the handwritten note that I was sent so many years ago... they go like this:

(())(()

Also put some SpeedX on that shaft and watch that thing freespool for days.

Hey Mark, Don't you need an extra bellville for that? I'll have to pull one of my older ones apart. I thought they came with either 4 or 6.

If (())() does not do it, then (())(() would make the ramp up from free to strike steeper but not as bad as ((())).

I'm pretty sure you're right, but that's what they sent me along with new bearings as I had one of the first LX's... As for the ramp; that's a really good point. If you want lock down go to sunset; I think that I might have tried that if I still had the reel.

Dale if you need one (bellville) you can ask the factory or if you're local I'll drop one at Noah's for you.

Thanks, I'm good so far. I only fish 40lb on my old ones. If I end up with a LX for 50lb, I'll try a two speed. I'm also waiting to see that new 4/0 size reel. I go straight from 40lb on a LX to 60lb on a SLD30 and then 80lb on my 30N.

Right... I go to 50# and 60# with my Tiagra 16's (Cofe'd up). Hello Avet... Time to come out with that reel that will fill between the LX/JX and Pro 30. Can't wait to see that reel.

Check out some of Alan Tani's tutorials on the things. It's all covered. I was scared 'till I pulled the first one apart. They make a Jigmaster look complicated.
