| Line retrieve per handle turn specs?
I'm considering an Avet for a new jigging outfit running braid.
Can anyone help me with the 'line retrieve per handle turn' specs of the following single drag range please?
MXJ 6.3:1
JX 6.0:1

Just like what you wrote down......
MXJ 6.3:1 = 6.3 to 1
JX 6.0:1 = 6 to 1 |

MXJ 6.3:1
JX 6.0:1 | He may mean, How much line is retreaved per handle crank? 6 spins of the spool equals how much line in length on each reel? Just a thought...

Inches per crank is generally a spec that the manufacturer lists as an estimate. While that number changes as the line decreses on the spool, the manufacturer will take the measurement with a full spool. This helps the angler to determine how fast jigs will be retrieved and how quickly a hooked fish will comes in. Its easier to list the spec from a full reel and knowledgable guys will undersdtand why the inches per crank is less the lower the line is on the spool. Great observation though.

Measure the circumference of the spool, filled with line, get the exact ratio in high gear, and multiply, you'll have a "best case" inches per crank. Example: 7.8 inch circumference X 6.0 ratio = 47 inches per crank. That's the spec for a JX 6.0.

Gentlemen, thanks for the replies
Rex, thats the spec I was after. I'm trying to size up a Trinidad16N and 40N against the equivalent Avet. Havent seen an Avet in the flesh yet as the stores about an hour away from me. The Avets aren't too common in these parts with my local stores stocking Penn, Shimano Daiwa and some $20 specials in the lower range. Where did you find that spec BTW?
halibutslayerII, nice rod you built for your GF too
Cheers Bill

About a year ago, I owned Shimano TN-40N's and TN-16's, also Newell P533-5.5. I was trying to figure out the fastest retrieve for Wahoo jig fishing. My friends had been ranting about a new reel they'd used on a 10-day trip in early October, an Avet JX 6/3 2-speed. I borrowed one, took it apart, tested it, measured everything, size, weight, drag, line capacity, etc. My Trinidads were blueprinted to the max, carbon fiber drags, machined disc, high grade bearings, shims and more, they were really good. cost about $700 each. The stock Avet blew them away in every respect, and cost $370, as well as being a 2-speed! Sold my Shimano's and Newell, and bought 2 JX 6/3's, which have become my all-time favorite reels to fish with, drags, casting/freespool, size/weight, narrow, easy to crank, and 2.8:1 low gear for incredible torque + 47 inches per crank. Avet has a new reel coming out in December, a 40 Narrow, that reel will have 50 inches per crank, weigh 26 oz., and have 2.5:1 low gear, and 30 pounds drag at strike.

The Avet company seems to have hit the target despite some seemingly dumb teething problems.
I love em' already and haven't seen one in the flesh yet .
