My friend and I fish at Loop Bridge. I caught three striped bass. I caught two small striped bass and both were released. I caught a keeper striped bass which weight at 25. We using live eel. We had a good time. Most boats did not well. However, a few boats caught one or two striped bass. That's it.

Re: October '06 Avet Contest

My name is Scott Redd. Went fishing on the Independence Oct. 3rd through 13th on a 10 day to the Rocks and Ridge with a great group of guys. My friend Bob (Murder Inc) made this trip even better as it was his 1st stand up style trip, towards the end he was a PRO at So Cal standup style fishing, using the rail when needed. We fished light gear for the conditions and fish present. I would like to enter two fish pictures as they show the effectiveness of two different reels.

My first pictures are of a 97LB Yellow fin Tuna caught October 6th (also had a 102 on the JX6/3 using 40 but no picture) at the ROCKS using an AVET JX6/3 matched with a Cal Star 765L with 40 lb blue Izor with 3 feet of fluorocarbon and an Owner 4/0 ringed J hook. Fish took me around the boat for a 40 Minute fight. You can just see the rocks in the background.

My 3rd picture is of a nice 37 lb Hen Dorado. Also caught at the Rocks on October 6th Rocks using my Blue AVET MXL 6/4 Matched with a Cal Star 700M with 30 lb blue Izor and a short top shot of 25 lb fluorocarbon an owner 3/0 ringed J hook. The MXL 6/4 made short work of catching this fish, at the same time making it great fun fishing with such a precision reel. My Avets performed flawlessly.

Had a great trip. The Wahoo were slow but as always it was great being on the water and meeting new friends.

Re: October '06 Avet Contest

We'll try this again I'm not computer savey. These are pics of my trip to alajois Rocks on the Indy Oct. 3rd -13th What a time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! went with Scott (Wahoo.Ch) Thanks for all the help Scott !!!!!!! I didn't own an Avet of my own I borrowed The J/X & L/X 2 speeds the Boat offerd and a 3/0 from my friend Joe. I brought some of my own( substanderd gear) I think it wasn't but after the first fish on my gear that for the most part it was't used again . The first pic is of 110.4 yellowfin I caught on the J/X with 40lbs Izor also caught a 90lbs with the L/x and 50lbs, the dorado also was on the J/x as well as to many yellow tails to mention some of good size on the dropper loop on the 3/0. I had the Time of my life, never fought quality fish stand up this was the first and the Avets certainly had alot to do with just how enjoyable it was a world apart from the gear I had brought Thanks again Scott for all of you patience and insight!!! Oh well here goes wish me luck.
P.S. there was BLOOD ON THE DECK,keep em "tight and wet"

Re: October '06 Avet Contest

This is a new pending Texas State Record Warsaw Grouper caught by one of my employees (Raul Reyes) on our 48-foot Charter boat (Blue Fin) at Captain Elliott's Party Boats n Freeport, TX. It was caught in 600 feet of water on October 18, 2006. The fish weighed 302.7 pounds and was caught on an Avet 30 Wide Reel. Not sure of the exact Model #.

Travis Bushard

San Diego bay

Avet sx on a 8' St. Croix-straight spectra 15lb flouro leader

10.25.06

This fish was caught fishing a live dine in 40' of water off North island. It was 29" and fat. As soon as he was in the net he puked up an 8" sand bass that had been partially digested. That is what is sticking out of his mouth. Thanks..Travis

Re: October '06 Avet Contest

I keep forgetting to take “AVET shots” when I snag a lamb… I am a lefty, so I am big on Avet. Hats off to Avet for being the only quality conventional reel manufacturer who doesn’t discriminate against us lefties.

60.5 lbs WSB taken down in Baja on 10/21/06 with Daiwa 6.5’ rod and Avet MXL 6/4 2 speed (…delivered by Noah’s). 50# spectra + 4 ft of 30# test floro leader.

The rig I cought it on is in the holder by my left foot. You can still see the line running to it from fishes mouth...

315lbs yellowfin tuna caught by Clarke Smith on "ALETA" on Oct 27, 2006 at Corbetenia Rock on an Avet 50EXW2 with 130lbs Izor spectra on a Calstar TS rod and a 10/0 Hyabusa circle hook with a briddled skipjack for bait. The fish was caught in 1 hour and twenty five minutes. The Avet's, which once again performed flawlessly under heavy drag pressure, also landed two black marlin and a 140lbs tuna on the same trip. Here's a couple more Avet shots for Harry & Sarkis...

Re: October '06 Avet Contest

The wife and I are both hooked up, she on a 30W mounted on a Rogue rod and me on the 50W also on a Rogue rod.
While she landed her tuna as seen in the attached photo mine was lost at the gaff after a 2 hour battle. This all happened 10/22/06 on Josh Temple's 35 foot Cabo Express. I thought it was worth showing off my fishing partner!

Oops, sorry for the huge pics, the one of us together is in the next post.

Re: October '06 Avet Contest

Hi guys.....I'am from Singapore and this is the first time submitting for Avet Contest!!!
Name: Y.C. Lam
Location: Off Mapor Island (Indonesian Waters)
Reel: Avet SX with 30 lbs Power Pro
Rod: Calstar
Bait: Whole Squid
Date: 22nd October 2006 (Sunday)

This Cobia of 22lbs (10 kg) took the bait and my SX was 'screaming' as i left it in the rod holder. While fighting the fish, i could feel the smoothness of the drag (set at 7lbs). At first, the fish rised to the surface and later dived back to the deep. This is my favourite Avet reel and i hope that i can catch a bigger fish to test out this reel. Thanks for reading.
