| What type of line do you guys use for your Avet Reels?
I have been using Ande for a longtime. But I see that a lot of people have been using other lines like P-line. I am a bait person and I like having a lot of line capacity on my MXJ, MXL, and my JX 2 speed. What I really want to know is can I get a way with using 25 to 30 on my MX's? And what type of line should I be using that isn't going to burn a hole in my wallet? Thanks for all of your responses they are greatly appreciated. |

I had an MXL and used 25 pound pink Ande.
I have a JX single speed and use 30 pound Pink Ande.
With both applications I had plenty of line capacity.

P-line CXX blue/white.
SX - 10#
MXJ - 15#
MXL - 20#
JX - 30/40#
LX - 30/40#
4/0W - 60#
Pro 30W - 80#
Pro 50 SDS - 100#
Pro 50W - 100#
All of mine are 2 speeds except the SX and are backed with spectra. P-line CXX breaks at about 130% of rated strength, so plan accordingly as it is thicker than normal line.

Agree, Make sure you back it with spectra if you dont want to spend alot on line. You will only have to spool it once, then you can make short wind-ons which is also cost effective per use. Change it each trip, someone times multiple times on a trip or even in a day.
Ande is fine. I dont fish pink but most that do swear by it. Use whatever line you have confidence in. I would feel comfortable fishing any of the following lines.
Izor Clear, Blue or XXX (smoke)
PLine, PLine CXX
Ande
Maxima
Soft steel
All are very good.
For spectra Id suggest Izor (which Ive been using), or Jerry Brown which I plan to try soon.
Yes you can fish 30# on you MX series. Some are doing that now with the new SX2, but to me the SX2 is a 20# reel.

We only troll here so the 4/0's & 3/0's have 30lb. The 5/0 50lb and the LX 20lb. All have Ande Premium except the 5/0's which have Ande Monster Yellow. When the 80's become available they will have Ande Monster Yellow also.

How much is it for spectra backing? And don't you have to know how to tie your line that your changing each trip to the spectra?

MXJ 20-30
JX 40 or 50
Only avets i have sorry lol working on more.
I think it depends on the kind of terrain you're fishing should depict your choice.
Personally I've had terrible experience fishing Izor near rocky areas. The stuff is so hard that it just snaps when it touches rock. Kind of like the difference of cutting line when its tight as opposed to loose line, but thats just me (it was the platinum)
Open water anything is fine really, whatever you have confidence in.
I've had the best results with Ande, but the stretch is unreal, good and bad.
P-line is perfect because if you're fishing 30lb and 40 is recommended, you're still probably ok.
and maxima gets bit surprisingly well, even if you fish green in blue water....
Just personaly preference i guess. good luck

Wow, going out on the limb here but I use Big game. Can be a memory problem, but not if you change your line enough your good. Never had a line failure.

I also like original P-line but like the value and consistency of Pink Ande.

For me, one advantage of Avets is that with the strong lever drag system and solid aluminum frame, you can fish heavier test line with a smaller, lighter reel. that method requires spectra backing for sufficient line capacity and makes line changes less expensive because you are only changing topshot, not whole reel, so initial expense is significant, but after that you can save money and keep fresher line on reel - a real plus for a season like this.
here's what i use:
sx - 20-25
mxj 6/1 - 25-30
jx 4.6/1 - 40
jx 6/3 - 50
brands of mono i like:
p-line
ande clear
stren, yes - has little memory - soft and fishes nice, also saw an article whereby it has one of the best abrasion resistance ratings by comparison.
